Will be moving to the Denver area fairly soon, and was wondering if anyone lives in Thornton or is familiar with it. My girlfriend is currently looking at homes there and I will be visiting soon. Any information or insight on the area would be appreciated. Thanks. Bud

My daughter and son in law live at thornton and we visit every once in awhile. They get snow. From what I have seen its a nice spawling town about 15 miles north of denver, all the houses look fairly new, no old stuff. Its a flat area with the grassy plains out of town north and east with the rockies to the west a ways.

I live on the south side, but am in Thornton periodically for biz. It's just another typical Denver Metro Area 'burb, happens to be on the north side. Newer construction up there if you go north of 104th Avenue, not a lot of mature landscapes and very tight lots in the developments.

That said, why Thornton? Job? Just asking because due west of there is closer to the mountains (if you're so inclined) and more recreation opps.

Thanks Dash - My girfriend is looking at horse properties as well as regular homes, and they seemed reasonable there compared to some other areas she has looked at like Bell Mountain. Also looked heavily in Lone Tree (wher she is staying) and Highlands Ranch. Pretty tight areas too. At least in Thornton you can get 1.5-3.5 acre sites that give you some breathing room. Bud

If she is going to be working in Lone Tree area where she is staying, driving from Thornton will be a killer 45+ minutes of stop and go traffic across downtown Denver. From Lone Tree she may want to look out in Eastern Aurora or East of Parker for horse property. She can also look South towards Castle Rock or along Hwy 85 near Sedalia if she will be working further north into Highlands Ranch. I she is going to be on the West Side of Denver she can look at going up 285 for property although it will be more expensive.
