Any farmers here (ques re weeding fence rows)

I've had suggestions re types of herbicides. I'd like input on distribution devices. At this point, I'm at the walking along and spraying stage.

Some promote rechargeable fire extinguishers. ~$200. Any of you use such?

What about backpack sprayers? I like Sthil garden tools, but the reviews on Sthil backpack sprayers is 56% negative. Leaking, mostly. Is there a solidly good brand backpack sprayer?

Then, there's wheel mount/cart sprayers. Some with long cords.

Finally, something relatively lightweight (as 100% of my work is done by yours truly) that I can put in the bed of a truck, drive to a spot, use a long hose and spray a long section, get back in the truck and drive forward, repeat.

Northern Tool carries some good tank type sprayers you can put in/on a ATV/UTV and cruise along the fence line. You could put it in the back of a pickup if you can get 12V power to it. Make sure it's not exposed to freezing temperatures and a spare wand is a good thing. Oh, make sure you're wearing waterproof gloves while using.

One of the 12 volt 15 gallon ATV sprayers might be a good choice. Place in the pickup bed, wire to the cigarette lighter and maybe add a longer hose for the spray wand. You could drive along and spray from the cab. The 1.0 gpm models are usually under $100.

Round-Up now comes in a version that is semi-permanent. Used it for the first time this year with apparent success - so far, anyway. I've had good luck with Agway sprayers if you want to mix your own.

I kind of like that idea, but it's hard on the chain link. Burns the galvanizing off and then the fence rusts.

Get a four gallon backpack sprayer. Battery powered or manual pump. $100 or less depending on which brand. Mix 4 oz to the gallon of roundup and 2 4D and you have scorched earth.

If you are willing to spray on the ground to work it's way into ground water so that eventually people drink it why worry about wearing gloves?

Retired from teaching horticulture, had two commercial greenhouses as a classroom. Dislike manual pump sprayers, either carried or backpack. Used a battery powered backpack for years. Retired and was asked to work on the schools grounds until they would contract it out. Spent 5 years until I told them it was time to really retire. Used a 4 gallon battery powered sprayer for weeds especially along the security fence. Now around the house use a 2 gallon sprayer from Wallyworld for weed control. Know that water weighs 8 pounds a gallon. Toting close to 40 pounds with a 4 gallon gets old quick at close to 70 years old.

Can you recommend a top notch, high dollar brand backpack sprayer? Reviews for Stihl are 56% negative. Surprising as all my lawn and garden tools are Stihl.

Because Roundup applied directly on the skin is far more hazardous than Roundup than has been filtered through tons of earth in small amounts over years.

Because whatever concentrate used is really bad for you as noted directly above AND the spray wands occasionally leak at the valve. We used to be able to rebuild those valves, not now. In really hot weather your pores are open and the stuff can get absorbed into the body. Wash up with hot water.

20 year pest control technician and manager here. I used Birchmeir back pack sprayers, both manual and battery. Prefer the manual. Used daily for years with regular cleaning and maintenance..
