Any good grip replacements that pad your hand on the backstrap?

The Crimson Laser grips wrap around and provide a nice rubber cushion for the backstrap making shooting the 442 (and other J-frames) a joy.(I hear)
However, they're expensive, particularly if you don't really feel you need the laser but love the fit and feel of the grips themselves.

Question: Are there any grips similar to it out there that you'd recommend that don't add length to the grip (making it less concealable)
I understand the Hogue Monogrip does add overall length to the grip.
Those thin Hogue Bantam grips, of course, do not cover the backstrap portion.

BTW, Those Hogue Tamer grips on the Ruger LCR would be perfect! Are they made by Hogue EXCLUSIVELY for the LCR?

Any recommendations?

Do the Pachmayr Compac Grips for S&W J Frame cover the backstrap?

Thats a easy chore to cover, no pun intended. Uncle Mikes full coverage grips are by far the best for absorbing recoil and giving you a natural sight picture, which IMO is very important for accuracy and point shooting. They do add a little to the length but are still totally concealable. If I can hide a 3" 657 undetected that little J frame would be really easy to conceal with the right outergarmet, quality IWB holster and a quality gun belt.

I put a set of Taurus m85 grips on mine. Cost me $5 and cover the backstrap. No more difficult to conceal than the standard grips. I usually pocket carry so I wanted a grip with no more length. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but they do have a better feel.

Roger,

The Pachmayr Compac grips cover the backstrap and extend slightly below the grip frame. They do a good job of soaking up recoil, if that is a major consideration. They fit small hands fairly well, even though they are bigger than boot-type grips.

Roger, if you do a google search for "J-frame rubber grip surgery" there's a thread on another forum. Basically, the guy took a set of Uncle Mikes Combat grips for the J frame and cut them off at the bottom. So they didn't stick out but still covered the backstrap and had a slightly wider grip. If you can't find the Uncle Mike's grips then if you go to the smith and wesson site store they sell a new version of it for $30.

I put a Pachmayr Compac on mind and it made it much more comfortable to shoot, but it also made it much heavier. I ended up going back to the original.
