I am planning to buy a CCW sub compact 9mm and was wondering if S&W makes a decent subcompact ccw 9mm similar to Kahr PM9 , Kahr CW or even Taurus PT709 Slim.....I want to keep my weapons in the S&W Family.... I currently have a S&W 642 and a Stainless steel model 686-6 , 4 inch 7 shot

Your best bet size-wise is the discontinued CS9 with the delrin grip mod (shown here with the oem Hogue grips).

CS9

looks pretty small....any ideas where I can find one...was it discontinued due to a defect?

You should also consider a Model 3919 or 909. Conceal-ability for a handgun is determined by how wide the slide is and how long the butt is. In both 'less' is 'more.' The length of the barrel/slide assembly doesn't have much to do with conceal-ability within reason. ......... Big Cholla

I hate to say it,,, but S&W does not make a deep conceal weapon. My next purchase is going to be a Kel-Tec PF-9 and a NNA mini 22 mag revolver. S&W has no game when it comes to deep conceal. And they only start at bricks and work there way up. To think I would carry my Sigma or even delute my self to carry the Sigma would be a dishonor to CC.

All I need is rat pistols to meet my need that go bang!

Well I carry a 5906 or a Kimber pro carry II. Both are about the same size and weight when loaded and I manage either quite well. Unless of course you choose to wear spandex or something stupid enough to print to the whole world. Reliability is the key in my book. It does you no good to carry a feather weight/small weapon in it won't fire when you need it. Heck if it's a plastic gun, you can't even use it for a good club if it doesn't shoot.

I think the best is the Chief but I also like the 908-it is a bit bigger but you must have control of the first shot and the 908 offers wonderful control I think and can be carried inside the waistband in many very good holsters-mine is from Blade tech

I thank God that I live in a state (and area of the state) where I can open carry. That said, I have carried k-frames and an SW40VE Sigma in a Smart-Carry with lots of success a few times. At first glance, the Smart-Carry idea seems a little odd, but it really does work, and is reasonably comfortable unless you insist on wearing pants that are "painted on".
On the other hand, a J-frame in a pocket holster doesn't print noticeably for me either, and is even more comfortable. And I do own a Kel-tec P3AT which can be concealed in any number of ways. CC is all about finding a system that works for you (gun, clothes, holster, etc). I'm about 6'2 and 285, so I can conceal a pretty big gun if I put my mind to it ;)

Why? I know people that carry full size pistols such as the 1911.

You would do quite well with a 3913/3914 or if you can find a CS9 even smaller. S&W discontinued them to pursue the polymer guns. Any third generation S&W is a great choice and is totally reliable. you will not regret getting one of these for CCW! I have both a CS9 and a 3913. Usually carry the 3913 however as it fits me a little better.

S&W ccw 9mm

As has been mentioned the little CS9 or the 3913 are great weapons and make for very comfortable and reliable ccw's.

Or how about a S&W 6906.
1) 3rd Generation Smith & Wesson
2) 12+1 9mm shot
3) Easy to conceal
4) Very reliable
5)26oz
6) Used by many police department during the 90's

FWIW, I favor the M3953, 9mm, stainless, DAO, or the M3954, 9mm, blue, DAO. They are easy to conceal and shoot right on.

Not sure what that statement means. So, for what it is worth, I carry a Sigma every day and it is concealed. I have 14 rounds of .40 S&W at my disposal. I have nothing against anyone who wants to carry a small gun with less capacity. At least you have a gun on you. But to say that you dishonor CC by carrying a full size gun begs the question. Sawed off shotguns can be concealed too. You just have to dress for it.

For a ccw I would have to go with a few that have been offered up already the 3913/3914/908 or any of the chief's CS9,40,45and the venerable 640

Eh? The M&P9c is bigger than the Kahr, but so what? It still can go deep cover. I carry a 3913 every day, concealed, even in summer with shorts and a T-shirt. BTW am sorely tempted to get a M&P9c. And the new Taurus Slim is just that, new and unproven.

Lastly, and not that PDs have never made mistakes, but how many police depts do you know that have issued Kahr's or Taurus, or Kel-Tec? Vs. how many issue M&P?? That says something, in my book.

cs9 is not discontinued

I saw on this post that the cs9 is discontinued. It is not.

I just purchased one new, from the factory last week, and

they are retooling as I type with new cnc machinery in Houlton, maine for the cs9 and tsw guns

It doesn't get any better....in a S&W compact CCW 9mm, than the CS9 (IF it fits your hand!) or 3913/3914/3953/3954.

The M&P compact is thicker through the slide, and has a lousy gritty trigger.

I would not put much stock in what the local police carry. Having worked for law enforcement agencies for fifteen years, I would point out that rarely is an issued handgun chosen with any input from shooters or people who will have to carry it.

Bureaucrats and bean counters more often have the final say. It's all about dollars and "reduced lifetime costs".

The Guilford County NC Sheriff's department just traded their Glock 22's to S&W in exchange for free M&P 45's with holsters....and advertising concessions. The folks I know over there (gun guys/shooters) wanted Glock 21's but nobody asked them. The bean counters though it was a good deal.

Fortunately many agencies have an "approved list" of pistols that you can purchase on your own and carry on duty once you qualify with it. This policy keeps you from being saddled with a handgun that is cheap to purchase, and popular due to extensive advertising and a historic nickname. Most cops (not all) I know are not shooters and view annual qualifications as a chore. They know as much about their handgun as I do about cold fusion.

My 3913 easily conceals under a T-shirt and is accurate and reliable. Nice examples can still be found for around $400, making it a value as well as a gem of a pistol. Good luck with your search! Regards 18DAI.

Thick? Yes. Gritty trigger? Well yes. But the second part of that is easy to fix. And with all the the new factory and aftermarket trigger components coming out you can make an M&P's trigger smooth and light with a clean break. I will stick with 3rd Gens for now, but I think they are making regular improvements to the M&P.

I would not put much stock in what the local police carry.

Soooooo true. If the gov't was selling off milsurp M249's for $1 each I bet I would be carrying one of those on duty instead of my $100 Glock.
