I got into fireams about 4 years ago when I got a job in a shooting-related industry. My professional interest turned into a passion that lead me to collecting and training.

Being a lover of history and one who appreciates beautiful things and fine craftsmanship, I gravitated toward Smith and Wesson revolvers. I also got into fine steel autoloaders including 1911s, hi powers, Gen 3 S&W's, etc.

I dabbled in polymer, striker-for guns. But they didn't have any appeal other than as utilitarian devices. This still largely true. But I've started to develop a fondness for my Glocks (19, 21, 26).

I've come to appreciate them for the perfection with which they fulfill their mission. They are intended to be reliable, tough, light, consistent, cheap, easy to master, and safe. And they all these things. I've come to appreciate the sheer plainness and how everything is subordinate to it's intended function. There are no frills or flourishes of any kind. There is nothing that isn't essential.

And I appreciate the story of Gaston Glock coming at an engineering challenge work and outsider's perspective and remaking the world.

Lots of people complain about the ergonomics of the Glock grip. I agree that they don't fit the hand like a glove, but I find that the grips accommodate TWO hands quote well. I shoot long barrel revolvers better than I shoot my Glocks. But I find Glocks to be perfectly functional shooters.

My favorite quote I read about Glocks went something like this: "I've got guns that I show my friends. I'd show my enemies my glock."

Does anyone else have a soft spot in their hear for Glocks?

Glock’s

Bought my first one in the 80’s. A Gen 1 model 17. Still shoot it regularly. I have carried a Glock as a duty weapon, off duty weapon & since my retirement still carry one as my edc. The Glock pistol has proven itself in whatever venue it has been used.
Do I own other brands? Sure do. But my “go to” is a Glock. Hot weather carry is a Glock 30 with Gold dot 230’s & cold weather carry is my G20 with 200 gr. HST’s.

I really like leather holsters and fine revolvers. I greatly prefer "revolver cartridges" like the .38 Special or .357. I hunt deer with a lever action rifle.

That said, I own a farm in the deep south. Heat, dust, humidity and sweat is what you get in the summer doing farm work. During such times I carry a Glock in a plastic holster. I have literally washed the Glock and holster off with a water hose after a day of work. Of course I dried and cleaned them after this. The Glock has some finish wear but has no rust. Regardless of how dust covered the Glock becomes, it always works. This kind of durability and reliability makes me appreciate Glock. I guess I have a warm spot in my heart for this pistol.

I like them in theory, like I like a Tokarev for entirely different reasons, but I would not own one, at least not the earlier double-stacks. Everything good the OP says about them is true, and a few more good things, but it is a HANDgun. Doesn't fit my hand. Some other guns do.

GLOCK - The beauty is in the inside....:D

I have two Glocks…a Model 29 (10mm) and a Model 30 (.45ACP).

They are fine tools for their purpose…but Tupperware guns have no soul. Blue steel and walnut does…as God intended.

Two "Big Tens"
One "Little Ten"
Bought the little ten in 89 or 90. Mdl 23..and shot for the two mdl 20's carry one of th 20's on the farm when not packing a wheel gun. Only carry one mag.as 13rounds should be enough to get'er done..lol

Issued duty weapons starting around 1989 and evolving: G17, G22, G23, G27. Got to keep a newly issued G23 upon retirement. Have several personally owned Glocks and the 26 has become one of my favorites. We had model 10 and 586 revolvers prior to going to autoloaders and I carried 2 1/2" M19 for many years off duty and still have that gun going on 49 years next month. Love my S&W revolvers and carry a 642 often, but beyond that it is a G19 or 26.

When the FBI approved Glock 26/27s I immediately bought a 27 to replace my Model 36 snub. It was a great gun and when our adventures were over I gave it to my son who shoots snakes with it in a west Texas oilfield.

I have a RDS equipped Model 19, an FBI commemorative Model 22, and a cool little Model 42.

They are great guns.

Am appreciating them for what they are. During winter carry a G23 in front pocket of overalls. Imo, G42 right up there with best 380.
