Any Love for Ruger Single Actions?

I have bought a couple Ruger single actions over the last three years, a stainless Super Blackhawk .44 Magnum 4 5/8" barrel and a stainless .357 Blackhawk, aslo with 4 5/8" barrel. Both revolvers share the same holster, a "Threepersons" style....

I probably enjoy shooting the .44 Magnum Super Blackhawk the best. When I first bought it, I downloaded my hand loads to moderate recoil, 240 grain jacketed bullets at around 1100 feet per second. Got to where I was shooting them pretty good, then started upping the power, now I'm shooting 240 grainers at 1300 FPS or so. Anything within 40 yards including some pretty small targets are in danger from me and the Super Blackhawk.

In my picture library are a couple of photos with some steel targets. Rabbit shot at 25 yards, 8" round steel at 40 yards:

I also prefer 4 clicks, so had no use for New Models. Then I held this stainless Bisley. It was love at first fondle. 5 1/2" 45 Colt. I was preparing to send it to Wes Flowers, to have it converted, when a coworker made me a deal I couldn't pass up on a blue 7 1/2.

I said, "Wes, do both of 'em, and cut two inches off the end of that blue one".

They are sweet.

Back in 1978, my first .44 mag handgun was an old high polish 3 screw SB, and I have been a big fan ever since. I own about a half dozen Ruger S/A's in various flavors, but my two favorites are a 50th Anniversary 6 1/2 inch .44 Flat Top, and a 4 3/4 inch SB. Both are accurate, and feel good in my hand.

I wanted a full-size gun to shoot .32 S&W Long wadcutters in, and this Lipsey's Ruger Single-Seven Bisley .327 Federal Magnum model (what a mouthful) fills the bill so well I bought an El Paso Saddlery holster for it. I like that the charge holes index with the "click", and the man-sized grip frame. When I first ordered it, I wished it had a 6.5" barrel instead of a 5.5", but after getting it, I have zero complaints.

Love no but like yes. Had a single-six years ago but traded it off for a Ruger 22/45 and some cash. Still have a SBH with 10.5" bull barrel. It shoots well but I hate the dragoon style trigger guard. The flat part at the rear keeps hitting my middle finger in recoil. It's also started backing out the cylinder pin after a few rounds and tying up the cylinder. Not sure what's causing that? I'd hate send it back to Ruger if it's a simple fix.

That being said I've had a hankering for a Blackhawk convertible, 45/45ACP with 4 5/8" barrel for a few years. Just like the way they look with that barrel length. Not a fan of the 45 Colt but I am with regards to 45 ACP. Wonder if 45 Super would work in one?

I have a 6.5", '59 Blackhawk in .44 mag and a 5.5" stainless Vaquero in .45 Colt.

I don't fire barrel bender .44 magnums in the Blackhawk, but I'll load up 250 grain JHPs going about 1150 fps and bang away on 10" plates at 100 yds until it gets boring. ;)

Here are my 10.5" Super Blackhawks. The middle and back are SRM 357 Maximums. The front one is a S410N IHMSA 44 mag one of 500.

This one is just a plain old unconverted 3 screw. 357 mag/9mm

This one I just picked up a few weeks ago. It's a super Blackhawk bisley 454 Casull.

Get a Wolf extra power base pin retention spring. That will usually fix the base pin jumping out. Cheap fix. You can also get a Belt Mountain Base pin with the set screw that holds the pin. Tightens things up a bit too and worth the money.

The answer to your question on the 45 is yes....maybe. :) If it is the full size Blackhawk and not the newer mid frame flat top it will easily handle 45 Super. The mid frame gun is safe with 45 a.c.p. +P which is 23,000 psi. Not sure if those guns would be safe with the super.

The "knuckle duster" grip frame of the SBH can be addressed with different grips.
