Any Musicians?

I played drums all through school. But have played mostly geetar
since 1977. One of my favorite old weapons. This one is 50 years old.

Looks like you've got a set of Stevie Ray Vaughn thick strings on there. Maybe it's just the picture, though. I think he used something like a .056" for the #6..

Naw, actually just the standard .10-.46's.. I guess it's the picture..
I've always liked that gauge as it's the "standard" slinky gauge and I
can get them almost anywhere. That's a 1960 Gibson Melody Maker.
It's the second one I've had. I also had a 59 just about like it many
years ago. The only difference was the 59 had a 7/8 inch wide single
coil, and that 1960 version uses a 5/8 incher, which they stuck with
through the 60's.
That one there is the cleaner of the two.. It's in pretty good shape for
a 50 year old geetar. The value continues to rise on it too, except that
I'm sure the economy has put a temporary dent in the value at the
moment. But I could probably triple what I paid for it in 2001 if I really
felt compelled. :) But.. I bought it to play, not to look at.
I worry about wearing out the frets.. I'm pretty hard on them as I bend
a lot. I've also got another one I play a lot, and it has a Floyd Rose trem,
etc..
I've just about beat the frets to death on that thing.. About time to
start looking for another one to use, so I can save the frets on the
Gibson. Sure, I can always have them replaced, but it makes me
nervous having people work on it. I never know for sure if the person will
be good, or someone that was working at wal-mart four months ago..
I've run into both types.. I once had frets replaced on the 59 I had.
It took one guy to install the frets, and then improperly dress them,
and another to properly finish the job. So I basically had to pay
twice last go around.
I'm kicking around getting a Telecaster.. I've never had one, or really
been much of a Fender guy as far as geetars, but I think I want to
walk on the other side of the street for a while, just to see what it is
like. :/

We should get a "musician shooter" ensemble together.
