Man, my turkey season has been on for a few weeks now. Hoping to get to go in the morning!

I don't but my brother in Virginia does. Last weekend he left his blind set up overnight and had to reclaim it the next morning from a copperhead who was quite angry about being dumped out on the ground. To quote my brother, "Dang snake brought fangs to a gunfight." So all ya'll stay safe out there and watch your step. Some of them critters in the woods can shoot back.

Never have gone....but i have been thinking about it...wouldnt know how to go about it. but im sure it wouldnt be that hard. STRAIGHTSHOOTER2 the reason i gave you a thumbs up on your post is because of what your brother said "Dang snake brought fangs to a gunfight." LOL good stuff. Good luck to all hunters out there.

This is my first year turkey hunting in almost 20 years. It's been so long I honestly don't remember the stats on my biggest turkey. My kids are at the age when it's time to learn the art of hunting. My daughter bagged this almost 20 lb gobbler (8" beard, 3/4" spurs) on opening day of youth season. Heck, it was almost in the opening hour. We were set up perfect and couldn't have asked for a better situation. I elected for Iowa's season 4, so my season starts next week. I plan to bring my step-son along for the hunt.

I use my trusty Browning BPS 12 guage using the full choke. This is what my daughter used this year (see picture below). My dad gave me that weapon when I turned 16, and it has done everything I've ever asked, from trap to turkeys and everything in between. My turkey load is Winchester 3" magnum #6 shot. It's a pretty forgiving combination for Turkeys. I've never needed a 2nd shot with that setup.

True Story. Last week I was at our local range and was joined by another shooter who had a new shotgun designed for hunting turkeys. He was checking the pattern at various distances and took a break to walk back to his vehicle. I was about to shoot again when a turkey (hen) walked across the range just behind our targets. It walked into the woods only to return later. We had to go downrange to chase it back into the woods. We not only have a lot of birds this year but they are apparently becoming acclimated to our range. Turkey hunting is fast becoming a popular sport.

Good Luck! Our season just closed and the first time in 20 years I didn't get one.The warm winter turned them on early and they were nesting in February.By opening in mid March the birds were Not very active.I tried a few days and quit.I usually get 3 or 4 and call in for a few friends.

Hope you guys thin 'em out some. They're over running my yard!
