I have a one piece j-frame grip that slides on the grip frame and is secured to the frame by a screw in the bottom of the grip that screws into a bracket that came with the grip. This doesen't seem to be the best way to secure a grip as it does have a bit of play. I see alot of grips made the same way so I figure a lot of folks must have them and have this same problem.

Any clues on tightening it up????

Thanks.

Sounds like a Hogue. Never had a problem with one. The first two things that come to mind are maybe someone removed material from the top of the inside of the grip. The other is that maybe the screw is too long (perhaps not the original screw).

If your talking about the Hogue MonoGrip you need to push at the same time your tighting it down. I had the same problem with mine, the screw wasn't catching the threads unless I pushed while turning.

686 grips

The Hogues on my 686 were like that, it was because the screw was hitting the bottom of the grip frame before tightening up the grip. Hope that helps.

That helps alot, that is exactly what's happening. Never thought of checking with the grip off, stupid on my part.

Well I'm off to see If I can get another screw.

Thanks alot.

If you have a set of fancy wire strippers there's a small set of bolt cutters in most of them & you can nip off two or three turns at a time till it's perfect..
Also I found a small headed allen screw at my hardware store before for those wood Hogues.. The Rubber grips use a different size of screw..
