Any Ruger MKII fans

MK IIs are my favorite, although I have only one at the moment. It is what was once a blued Government model, but now looks like something that was used to beat the ugly into the ugly stick, then thrown in the pond, swallowed by a catfish and then exited the catfish on the south side as he was swimming north. The previous owner almost gave it to me, and I was sure I had come out on the worst end of the deal. I got it home and soaked it in automatic tranny fluid for a week and took it apart. It looked way better on the inside than outside, but the safety is still rusted to the frame and won't move to the safe position, so I only load it on the firing line. It has a brass wood screw holding the left grip panel on. I have thought about dragging it behind the truck to make it look better. The only reason I keep it is because it has the sweetest trigger and outshoots my M41 and ALL of my High Standards. ???! I would post a picture, but the mods would probably punish me for trashing the thread.

I have several, but this is the prettiest one. It was engraved and tuned by a student taking Gunsmithing at Montgomery County Tech School in Troy, NC maybe 15 years ago. I've never been able to find out who did it

Another Ruger MK II fan here . I own a MK II Competition Target , a MK II KMK 678 along with a MK III Target & a MK IV 22/45 as well. No plans on getting rid of any of them but the MK II's are my favorite by far.

What is a MK II KMK 678? Thanks.

KMK678 is stainless, target model with a 6 7/8" barrel.

The first "K" indicating stainless and "678" indicating barrel length.

I have one of these and a MK678G government target model.

I have three. Two Government models and a Target. They made a trip to SGW gunsmith in Wisconsin for trigger work and a tune. Unfortunately I heard recently Dennis has passed away so he and hid excellent work on Rugers will be missed.

I have to wonder, is the difficulty of disassembly intentional? Now, I have posted several times that I can disassemble and re assemble them no problem, but it certainly isn't foolproof, and there are certain things that need to position just so.

So, if we say this was intentional, then Bill Ruger was just a jerk who didn't want people to be able to get inside his guns. On the other hand, if we say it was just coincidental, then Bill Ruger was a pretty mediocre engineer and gun designer. Either statement will have the Ruger Collector's Association firing up the tar pots and plucking chickens, but I do just have to wonder. I was cleaning two MK IIs last night, and it just struck me how perfect the length of that hammer strut is to hang right up on that cross pin. Almost perfectly engineered to cause problems.

When I first got my aforementioned MKII, I took it to the local 'smith to check it out. While there, I asked him "Why did Ruger make it so difficult to reassemble?" He smiled and said "Because engineers forget that real people are going to use these."

I won a bull barrel match Mk II as the match winner at a state pistol match in 1983. It had a pretty marginal trigger, but the state game & fish armorer fixed that with a replacement trigger that is worthy of any high-end match pistol.

It's my wife's favorite pistol to shoot and it still gets to go to the range now and then.

Back when I was a lot younger and a lot poorer I bought a Ruger MKII Government. I wanted to shoot Indoor Bullseye matches and couldn't afford a S&W 41. I shoot many matches and listened to the old timers and really learned a lot. I never won one of those matches but I will never forget those nights shooting with those guys. BTW I still have that MKII.

I think the Ruger is the most trouble free non finicky 22 auto out there in addition to being very accurate. I have a few of them but this Government Model is my favorite to shoot.

Really like those grips...are those ones you made?
