Any shark eaters around here...

In the UK, fish and chips is often made with dogfish, a small shark.

But I don't know how they prepare the meat prior to cooking.

I did eat shark once in 70 maybe 71 while in the USN. Not a fan, same
can be said for warm sake.

Another fish that is good fresh (never frozen) is marlin. We went fishing in Baja and were served the day's catch every night. Quite tasty! turns to mush once it's frozen. We were throwing back triggerfish and later I learned they were the best tasting fish down there!

Due to the political situation, we go halibut fishing out of Homer every couple of years.

We don't have Marlin around here. We got swordfish. We used to get it fresh, main fishing spot around here is 15 mile up the coast from where I live, but nowadays we mostly get it frozen. It's still very good. There are lots of ways to freeze fish.

Mario-

Don't you worry about the mercury content?

I limit my consumption of even tuna due to that.

Soak out the pee

Its because sharks don't have kidneys, the flesh (the meat you eat) act as their kidneys. I have eaten shark before but after learning this I havn't sence.

Before you cook it, it has to be soaked to get the pee taste out.

Shark is easy as pie to catch around here, but they have some restrictions because they are 'endangered'. Last time I went fishing off an ocean dock I threw back baby sharks all night long. Funny how along with Florida we get people shark bit about once or twice a month.

Mercury content is higher in closed waters like the Mediterranean. In the Atlantic not so much. And some of our tuna comes from the Azores.

Anyways, dying healthy must suck.

Edit. And it's not like I eat any of them everyday of the week.:D

LOL, well then have at it!
I like seafood just fine, but I'm not THAT fond of it :D

Just about all of our N. Alabama lakes have fish consumption advisories.....I'm working on that tombstone as we speak.

I googled who and how many had met their fate eating mercury laced fish. Seems I'll be in good company :D

Yeah, with mercury poisoning the concern is less bout dying from it and more about living with it. Creates some pretty unpleasant effects kind of like Alzheimers combined with Parkinsons and ALS.
Mercury poisoning: Symptoms and early signs
Again, not a concern unless you overdo it - moderation in all things.

I've had first hand experience with all of the above.....ALS was by far the worst.

Neither friends or Mom had a choice.....Fish consumption had nothing to do with either case......

........ I've been squeezing brain cells for years. I'm guaranteed to expire one of these days.
