I'm considering purchasing a shield .40 and was just wondering if there has been any ka-booms reported lately? It seemed like there for a while every time I accessed the M&P forum there was a report of someone having one of these disasters. Kind of had me scared for a while.

Oh yeh, has anyone had any bad experiences ordering from either Kentucky Gun or Cheaper than Dirt? They both seem to have decent prices, if the gun happens to be in stock.

My buddy got his Shield 9mm form Kentucky gun. It took a few days for them to ship it. I got my new Shield w/o safety from grabagun.com for $370. Ended up costing $395 after transfer and shipping. I sold my old Shield for $400.

All of the .40 Shield pistols blew up and there are none left to report another KA-BOOM.

And as a side note...
THE SKY IS FALLING! :D

Had S&W replace my Shield 40 barrel and guide rod spring after a few FTF issues during the first 1,000 rounds (1% fail rate). 100% perfect now after 2,000 rounds. Eats Hornady Critical Defense and Speer Gold Dot ammo that has been chambered 3 times max without any issues.

Just brought 2 guns within the last month from Kentucky Gun. They were easy to get ahold of via phone or email. They shipped within a week or under. Their layaway is 30% down and must be paid within 60 days, but there isn't any other fees applied to having the convenience and privilege of using layaway. Had a great experience. I brought my .40 Shield from them for $345 shipped (they do not charge for shipping firearms).

The ONLY down side is that they do charge a 3% fee for credit card payments, but not for mailed checks or money orders...

My shield has been fine... No problems at all...

STAY AWAY FROM CHEAPERTHANDIRT!

I haven't bought through KY Gun yet and the ONLY things I'd buy through CTD is (maybe) their Rock-Bottom Closeout specials that I can't find any cheaper locally.

When buying online, I've had great dealings with both Grab-a-Gun and CDNN Sports. Both have good Online (Chat) AND Phone service, as well as good shipping prices. What makes it even nicer is that I found an FFL that only charges $20 for transfers AND is only 2 Miles from my house.

Unfortunately, GaG and CDNN are both TX Based and I'm a TX resident, so I do get hit with Sales Tax.

Oh yeah... Haven't heard any Shield40 KaBoom tales in QUITE a while. :)

Yea GrabaGun is good too, but I think they charge for shipping. I found that over all, KY Gun Co. has better prices on most of there firearms, but GrabaGun still has great sales and deals if you can get in on them before they sell out.

Thanks for the heads-up on CTD. I bought a Kahr CM9 from them 2-3 years ago and thought I got a pretty good deal but didn't know about the gouging.

I hope the shield I get will go Boom out the front end, but not ka-boom out the top, bottom, or back end.

I have not dealt with Kentucky Gun Co. as of yet. I have friends both here in Ohio and Kentucky that have. They all have great things to say about their experiences.

To hell with Cheaperthandirt they gouge all their stuff. I've order two things from their catalog and both were more than advertised. I wouldn't order from them if they were giving away .22LR.

I had a good experience ordering from Mr. Gun Dealer out of Michigan. good price, free shipping, good communication.

I'd really like to see posts that are responsive to the thread title. The posts in this thread are non-responsive.

Not read on any "kabooms" recently, over the last several months. I do think the kabooms incidents were very isolated, and likely only a few occurred. If it was still happening, you would be reading it in this Forum. Any gun can kaboom if you use over powered ammunition. Barrels and guns get tested for pressures above what the normal SAMMI specs for ammunition, to protect against blowing up. Ammunition can get made wrong, and hand loaders can make mistakes. We have all seen ammo recalls due to something wrong. Winchester had a recent recall for double powder in some 22 LR ammo, and Hornady recalled some +P 9 mm, due to light powder, so it can and does happen. A barrel can be manufactured wrong, have a bad casting/forging, with a weak chamber area. But for all the hundreds of thousands of S&W Shields 40 sold for the last 2 1/2 years , the kabooms have been very minimal. There hasn't been a recall from S&W, and if the gun's design was the issue, you would see a recall.

I have a Shield 40 and shoot very strong CorBon SD ammo. It meets SAMMI specs, but is on the high pressure side compared to the avarage SD ammo. I have not had any issues with my 40.

Good advice for all auto-pistol shooters....

Any round you have chambered, and ejected....
You should put it into your practice-ammo bin.
I'd say that goes DOUBLE for .40 pistols.

I believe that projectile set-back has had much to do with kBs over the years.
