Might be my next handgun purchase. Price is right and Ruger has a pretty good reputation for building handguns well, fact is IMO many of their revolvers are overbuilt by a factor approaching 2.

One thing I'm not sold on is the internal extractor, I'm a belt and suspenders type and I have a feeling that external extractors offer some minor advantages in terms of maintaining reliable extraction. Other than that, don't see anything else I don't like. Fact is for the money it looks to be a superb value.

I've always heard that every handgunner will eventually get a 1911, to this point never having had a gun with a manual safety I've resisted that urge. However, IMO it's a darned good looking piece at the right price so I've grown an inch for one.

Be interested in any comments. Fact is it will be months before they are actually in the stores so I have plenty of time to scope it out.

PS; the S&W E series is also in consideration, however not sold on the fish scales or the price.

1911's have used internal extractors for the last 100 years, and worked very well with them. In fact, external extractors are a new fad and quite a few 1911 makers have abandoned them. Having said that, I will wait and see how the first Ruger 1911's do once people start shooting them before I decide.

Ruger is known for quality firearms and has very good customer service, however like previously mentioned I would wait a year or so until all the bugs are worked out.

I'll give it a few months to allow things to shake down.
Ruger has produced many fine firearms and seldom let me down.
I remember when the P-85 hit the shelves, I scooped one up without any regrets. Now with so many changes in manufacturing, I wait a little longer.

As much of a Ruger fan as I am, I have little excitement about yet another 1911 clone hitting the market. I have a Ruger P90 .45 and it's probably a better gun than any SR1911 will ever be anyway. I feel the P-Series are the best bottomfeeders Ruger ever made, or will make. If it weren't for politics and palm greasing the P85 probably would have been the issue sidearm of the US military.

I saw one video where it was mentioned that there will be other models coming. This is merely the opening salvo.
For a first model I like it, simple and to the point with a few features and without being overdone.

Yes, if anyone needs a 1911 it's sure is you. You should try one, you may like them.;):D

They did at one time, not any more really except for their wheelies

I'd much rather have an internal extractor on a 1911 and for that 1911 to be a Colt

That's my opinion:D

.............lol.............:D but that could be illegal if not done properly.
I prefer to just adopt randomly.

Well, maybe not so randomly. ( ;) Y :) )

It will be intresting to see what their SRP is. If it above $800.00 and less than $1200.00, it will be compeating with the Springfield Armory, Sig, S&W, Kimbers, etc.......
If its in the $400.00 to $500.00 range, it may give Rock Island and the Armscor 1911s a run for their money.

My bet is that knowing Ruger, they will want closer to $1000.00 for their gun than $700.00.

Me, I'm waiting for the Recalls to be over before I buy a couple of them.

What I cannot figure out is why anyone would want to pay more money for a series 80 ???

At least Ruger was paying attention.

Well, at least it doesn't have the squared off front on the trigger guard that was mandatory ears ago. I could do without the ducktail grip safety and go-fast hammer. A machine-checkered frontstrap would have been more useful.

I'm waiting for the Pike Bishop model with good sights, myself. Or the Bruce Willis "Last Man Standing" belt fed version.

well if you see and watch the factory video, lots of this is explained as well as the 'details' on the Rugers web site, straight housing, 25 lines per inch, etc.Special Novak sights and others (no dots ) will be available at the Ruger store,,,,,special titanium firing pin eliminates the need for the series 80 firing pin block/safety, and on and on...NICE presentation, got ours on order already, I like how it sounds, as said before, at least this time, they thought a LOT of things out.............

If I do buy another 1911, it would probably be the Ruger.

I don't know if a 7-shot .45 can do anything my moonclipped 4" GP100 can't.......
