Any war time Walther experts out there?

Posting this or a friend who owns a shop locally, this gun strolled in not long ago and he purchased it. It’s a Walther PPK chambered in 22, serialized on both the slide and frame with 2 mags numbered to the pistol in the side of the base plate.
Sights are painted, rear is red front is white, could this be a Walther bank gun or other Military/ Police contract?

Does not look like a war time gun. Don't think any were in .22 for war time combat use. Someone destroyed it with an electro pencil.

That's what it is. Not considered a military or police pistol, but still collectable.

The condition and electro pencil markings affect the value negatively, as you probably know.

These were issued to German bank employees with an interesting holster. I'm sorry to say I don't have any pictures handy of one.
One of my Walther reference books may have a picture or two. If I think about it I'll try to find some pics and post in the thread.

A 1941 yr/mfg according to a list I have.
The magazine matches (ser#) which is a big plus.

The electro pencil marking does take away from it, but it is what it is.

Nice pistols in .22RF.
One was my carry gun for nearly 35yrs.
An early 60's mfg Walther PPk in 22rf, I bought used around '74 w/ 2 xtra mags.
Now gone and replaced by a MArlin Mod 97 Deluxe rifle in .22 in a straight trade.
Harder to conceal, but shoots nice too.

Nice find! I remember back in the 60s and 70s when police departments would loan out engravers and encouraged everyone to put their SSN on valuables. Looks like this pistol was a victim of that "public service".

When I was actively collecting commercial pre WWII PPKs, I never saw a Reichsbank 22lr example with electro pencil markings.

If these were issued to German bank employees, there is no way the holder would have added such a # to it. Streng verboten.

I'm not sure why some of you think that is not two initials and a SSN. The 239 Prefix is North Carolina. If you could look up the SSN 239 90 036?, can't read the last number, it probably would trace back to someone born in North Carolina with the initials CP.

Actually I am not offended or put off by the electro pencil numbers, I am sure this lessens the value to collectors but for shooters this is a "Jewel", not worthy of the high prices but remains a well made, dependable fire arm. I do like them!
