Any Win. Model 12 fans here ??

I have used and coveted the model 12 for a few decades now and am still puzzled when people say they have had issues with wear. I bought a well used model 12 trap grade from the early fifties. I bought it from a renowned trap shooter who kept exacting records. When I bought it, he had just passed 310,000 rounds and had never been inside the gun and it still works great, no issues. I have another that has been used and carried so long it is virtually 100% silver. This gun is from 1950 and I did have to install a new cartridge cut off because it had passed so many shells through the magazine tube it had worn down the cut off. I have seen one taken down so many times the threads were worn flat and had to use Teflon take to keep the wiggle out yet still functioned perfectly. Yes I have seen some real sloppy model 12's and 97's, just makes me wonder how many rounds went through them and how much abuse they took to get the way they are.

The 20 ga. came out first.2 1/2 " shells 25" barrel and light weight. The 12 was next and is a larger frame size. The 16 is the same frame as the 20, wonderful to carry. The 16 had the 2 9/16 chamber for a long time, they can have problems ejecting some lots of shells form all companies. Used field guns with no ribs, and cosmetic issues can be had for very reasonable prices. Some can be very collectable and pricey, because of that a lot of people think they are all worth a fortune. The balance of these guns can be as good as that of a fine double gun. Mark

My favorite usin' shotgun around here is a Winchester Model 12, the second one I've owned. Dove season's started but I don't get to go out until Thursday afternoon.

This Model 12 was special-ordered by an old friend of mine in 1941, just before World War II. He ordered a Skeet Grade gun with the factory option Cutt's Compensator with choke tubes. The barrel with the Cutt's option is scarce but not particularly desirable. The device sure does ugly-fy the gun but it's deadly on doves over a Texas stock tank or on ducks over decoys.

I gladly purchased it from him though, to replace the 1958 vintage Model 12 I used for years which was fitted with a Poly-Choke.
