Just saw a piece on the news about bear problems in Florida on CBS news. Curious about any views other than the "Animal Rights"( ok to eat little kids) opinions' that were mostly shown. Hunt supposed to start Saturday. I,ve never seen one walking down my road. Like to know how it goes, hopefully safely.

We've had local TV news reports of bears in my area getting into garbage cans. I have seen deer, gators, hogs, possums, raccoons, snakes, and tree rats (squirrels) but no bears.

In Louisiana we are getting close to a bear season. They have made a remarkable comeback thanks to the efforts of many. I remember back in the 70's that the hunting pamphlet actually listed a black beat season. If I remember correctly it was a 6 day season starting October 1st. I never knew anyone that actually got one. Problem with the bears down here in St. Mary and Iberia Parish is that they get into the cane fields and can really do some damage. Also you got to be really careful when you are looking for pigs cause at about 200 yards a bear and a pig look a lot alike. I've gotten several pictures from friends showing bears and cubs playing in their yards-pretty cool if you ask me. I'm not sure I'd want to shoot one though.

No Bear hunting for me. I believe there is a total limit of 320 bears for the entire State but no limit on the number of permits sold. Not very many bears for the entire State.

First hunt allowed in 20 so years.

The problem bears are NOT the ones that are going to get killed. Those Bears are in the up scale gated communities swimming in pools and eating BBQ:D Those they try and trap with Doughnuts and Cookies.

Me and a bear, at restaurant in Sparks Nevada, while on a motorcycle trip.

Florida FWC makes no sense ( I know not unusual) I can only say for my area. The Black Bears have become a problem in a lot of communities (we encroached on the wild areas)
Anyway before this Hunt was sanctioned it was illegal to even bother a bear. A Father had one come in his back yard were the young kids were playing( a community not a isolated house in the boonies) Kids came screaming in the house, so Dad got his 44 Mag and went a shot it dead.

He was of course arrested and FWC really let him have it. Claimed he was safe in the house and should have just let it be and should have called them?

Ever since then there have been almost weekly reports of bears in the screen porches, in pools etc. "It;s not a bear problem but a garbage problem" according to FWC!
These are home in the several hundred thousand to almost a million dollars. So they set up a few live traps and catch a few bears and release the elsewhere. Then they allow a hunt??

Just like Panthers if they keep mowing down the woods the animals have no place to go. Panthers are run over on I 75 all the time and they do not do anything about it,

They should have slow speed 5mph on the Interstate.;)

I wish they would open up Manatee season, they force everyone to go slow speed/no wake everywhere and there are lots of them now. Actually had a building moratorium against build boat docks as boat docks mean more boats therefore less manatees?? DUH!

Used to be able to go 60mph over the flats!

Darn things clog up my props when I run them over.;)

Manatee the other White Blubber.:)
