Anybody tried K-frame Miculek grips?

I want to replace the good years on my M-66, but buying grips you can't try first is worse than ordering shoes online.

The design looks perfect for DA shooting, but I have stubby fingers, in contrast to Miculek, whose hands look huge.

How do they compare in size to regular Hogues? Anyone hate em? Love em?

I have short stubby finger as well and just bought a pair on the forum last month. They fit great. Imagine smooth round butt targets built for a square butt but with out the flare at the bottom. I think there is another used pair in the accessories forum for sale.

I tried them on an L frame and like them. The Ahrends actually seem bigger to me.

Both fill you hand.

Grips are about as subjective as it gets -- in different hands and on different guns.

That being said, Miculek grips are not for me. Very thin -- thinnest grip I've ever tried -- and slippery smooth. Did not work in my hand, which is medium-small.

I currently have some on a 617. They are ok and fit my hand well but are somewhat slippery. Can't say if that's a good or bad thing.
After a little thought about it, I think I prefer Ahrends.

+1 on what Hap said. I put a set of Miculek grips on my N frame, shot about 2 or 3 cylinders with them and put the goodyears back on. I hated them. Sold them to a guy for a reduced price and he loves them..?

I love the looks of nice wood, ivory, stag, bone grips. But on my shootin' guns, autos and revolvers, most of them have rubber grips..

I recall reading that Miculek designed these grips for his style of DA shooting - smooth to allow the hand to slide into its final position if placement at the beginning of the draw stoke was a little off, and a ribbed trigger to keep a good finger grip/contact or something like that. Sort of contrary to what a lot of others teach. I like the look of his grips, but would like to handle a revolver fitted with them before plunging. I am less and less a fan of finger grooves, but have to admit that on K-Ls, Pachmyer Grippers work most consistently for me. You might also take a look at the Herritts website.

Yeah l, grips are very subjective, which why I don't want to order grips I can't try. Then again, you can't really judge with one try.

Miculek likes them slick to adjust his grip after drawing. He actually puts on talc. His hands are big so I guess it's no problem. I watched his advanced revolver video and do like the pad-only-straight-back trigger technique. It's working well for me and serrations do help keep the finger situated.

I can always buy a pair and rough em up with sandpaper.

I have three in the N size but have not owned or even tried one in the K size. I do have a 66 and 617 that I hardly ever use. I'd really like to buy one but they're just too expensive. The ones that I have were obtained at greatly reduced price. One was given to me for free because the prior owner hated it so much!

Do these work with the K Frame square butt? If so, my 4" 66 would be the perfect candidate.

I read that Miculek made the K frame grips the same size as the N frame versions to give the same hold on different guns.

I'm in the short stubby finger category and I like his grips on my 625JM.

You might be able to find a LGS with a 625JM in stock so you could try holding it. The stores around were I live get them in occasionally.

Dang, shoulda ordered from Brownells instead of direct from Hogue. $10 less.
That's about the first thing I've ever seen that was cheaper through Brownells

I got a set back when Jerry was selling them from his home, I think. I use them on my 17-3 and think they're a great choice, especially for a rimfire with no recoil.

I don't think they're too slippery. They allow you to slide your hand to the sweet spot. A little more pressure stops any movement.

They do fit a square butt K-frame, but they have a little window in front where a bit of metal shows through, near the strain screw. I think they had to do this or else they couldn't slide past both corners of the butt during mounting. It bothered me at first, but doesn't affect anything except the aesthetics. I think they look very good regardless, and the round butt version which doesn't have the window looks that much better.

My hands are medium size, with fairly thick, short fingers. K-frame target grips are too thick for me. The thinner Jerry M grips work well with different hand sizes and would be a good choice for a K-22 which is shared among different shooters.

I can't speak for their effectiveness when shooting Magnums, or even .38 Specials. I mounted them on the M17 and there they have remained.

I had some. Very thin, very smooth but not terribly slippery, and they filled in so much area behind the trigger guard that the gun sat higher in my hand which made it feel strange/unbalanced to me. YMMV as they will fit each person differently.

Well, the JM grips came in today and I like em, though I haven't shot with them yet.

They're not any slicker than the wooden Hogue finger-grooves I've had on my 24-3 for 20+ years. It may be the next receipient.
