I was perusing my email, eliminating spam that accumulates. I noticed ads that I could not block or send to spam, but only worked as a link to a webpage with the product/service offered.
I've never seen this. There is usually an ad up top that I ignore but these were appearing in the list of emails. I called customer service. I'll edit out the extraneous parts:

Hi, I'm your AT&T virtual assistant.
Choose a topic below or ask a question of your own.

Me 12:08 AM
ATT decided to route emails using Yahoo. Yahoo is now putting ads in my email list and it wants me to pay to remove the ads. I PAY for your service. Why should I have to pay to eliminate ads???

12:20 AM
This email I got says it is a 'free trial' which means after I start using it, they will start to charge money for the 'service'.

I cannon delete or block these ads. I am extremely unsatisfied.

Me: 12:29 AM
I've had ATT for decades and this is the first time I'm dissatisfied enough to look at other providers.

Me: 12:30 AM
I'm not Yahoo's customer, I'm YOUR customer.

Did you upgrade your email?

Me: 12:34 AM
What do you mean 'upgrade'? What is the 'upgrade'?
I have not.
Unless I was directed to. If I have 'upgraded' it said nothing about these changes.

Rachel 12:36 AM
There is a better version of email, which have additional services like it is Advertisement free,Domain blocking ,Disposable email addresses etc.

Me: 12:36 AM
Does it cost money?

Rachel 12:37 AM
Youa applied for the free trial right?

Me: 12:37 AM
No I haven't. I tried to eliminate the ads.
If I did it was a trick.

Rachel 12:38 AM
Yeah To avoid ads you must have upgraded your email.

Rachel 12:38 AM
It is usually a free trial

Me: 12:38 AM
I don't understand.

Rachel 12:38 AM
But you will get charged once the trail period is over

Me: 12:38 AM
How do I please get rid of the ads. I do not want to be charged.

Rachel 12:39 AM
Like the add free version of email comes with a cost

Me: 12:39 AM
That is why I'm upset. If I want to get rid of the ads I have to pay!
How can I just get email, no ads without paying above what I already pay?

I can't wait to talk with Customer Service. I suppose I'll be looking for another provider. The problem will be getting one that's any better with underhanded ********.

What do you guys use and are you satisfied?

I agree, I am also looking.
I am totally disgusted with calling customer service in india and trying to talk to an agent who said his name is Abe....

I'm experiencing the same thing with AOL's email service. They let these same type of ads come in to my email, ones that you cannot unsubscribe to, and then AOL advertises ad-free email service for a fee.

I'm open to recommendations on a good, free, email service provider.

I guess there is....

....Gmail that you can use. I used to use the open source Thunderbird/Firebird whatever it was but it stopped working. Probably having a free service was too good to be true for very long in this age of subcribe to every damn thing.

I remember AOL from back in the 90's.

The terrible sounds of a dial up modem, and You've Got Mail!

I use Spectrum cfl.rr.com email, and a gmail account.
