Any of you guys carry a 4" revolver IWB? I have an excellent IWB holster from Tucker Gun Leather that I use to carry all of my 2.5" to 3" K & L frame revolvers. The holster is perfect for all of them.

But I feel like 3" is about the most I can get away with using IWB carry. I would think 4" would exceed my limitations to carry IWB. It is not the weight that would be the problem, it is the barrel length. I just think it would extend too far down my butt and make sitting difficult and uncomfortable.

Anyone here carry a 4" or longer revolver IWB? If so, what holster? Tell us about your experience? Do you carry it regularly? Is it comfortable? etc?

I ask because I am considering buying a 325 Thunder Ranch. But if I buy it, I would want to carry it. And I would like to carry IWB. But if I can't comfortably, I will probably pass on buying it. The 325TR has a scandium frame and only weighs 30ozs. This is considerably lighter than several of the 357 L Frames I carry. My 686PC 2.5 and 586 L Comp are both heavier and I can carry them with no problem.

I carry a 4" revolver IWB on occasion. The issue is not so much comfort related as the ease with which it can be drawn and presented. IWB holsters for revolvers are inherently high ride, and the longer the barrel, the more "chicken wing" effect on your arm needed to clear leather.

A 4" revolver extends about as far below the belt line as a 4" pistol. It's not long enough to "clunk" when you sit down, as is a 5" 1911. However a pistol of that length rides much lower on your hip. On the plus side, the cylinder of a revolver tends to ride on top of your hip and belt, taking up some of the weight.

The inconvenience is a small sacrifice if you want or need the added firepower. A .357 Magnum has about 50% more muzzle energy than a .45, and a .44 Magnum more than twice.

I have carried the larger handguns in the IWB from Andrews Custom Leather. Works just fine. Get a stiff gun belt and you will be OK.

Thinking of switching to a M69 and will get one of the Andrews rigs for it.

I carry a 4" Model 13 or 19 in a Milt Sparks SS-2 sometimes. It works fine for me; I don't really notice the barrel length.

I carry a 4"bbl M66 or my M19 in a bianchi 6d-4 iwb holster , right side slightly towards the back of the hip, very comfortable even for all day carries. M66 is not too heavy its a great shooter and fine carry gun. many folks do carry 4"bbl models with no difficulty

I carry a 4" GP-100 IWB on hikes, and I carried a 4" Model 13 IWB for a couple years back when I still had hair. I do find the 3" tubes work better for me A-IWB when I'm sitting a lot, but it's not really a problem with the 4".

I carried a Model 66 4" for years in a Bianchi Pistol Pocket. An auto is easier but if you're a wheelgun guy it's completely doable with a K frame and the L frame is more noticeable. One of the posters mentioned a good stiff gunbelt and that is NECESSARY to carry a heavy revolver.

Good luck with the carry I'm getting too old to carry heavy revolvers IWB anymore.

No one is a bigger advocate of a good gun belt than me. I have an excellent belt from Tucker Gun Leather. Not only is it 100% functional, it looks really good/fashionable to. I know how important fashion is to all us gun owning rednecks ;)

Taken Today. I wear pretty much the same outfit everyday here in South Florida. Shorts, flip flops, wife beater, and a short sleeve button up shirt. Or just a slightly long T-Shirt. I'm clearly not afraid to carry a 39oz revolver (loaded weight). Honestly with this rig I barely notice I'm carrying it. Holster is a Tucker Gun Leather Texas Heritage IWB. Tucker Carry Belt. On occasion when I'm at the Cabin (and gun selection in limited) and want to head into town or picnic..... a 4" 66-1 with Spegel Boot grips in a Milt Sparks Summer Special holster.........it's kind of my general purpose "walk in the woods" .357....... but able to do double duty as my concealed carry.

but a 3" .357; 60-10, 66-4 or 65-? is much more likely to fill the IWB role.

I mostly agree with Neumann's post #2. I sometimes carry a Model 10-5 in a Milt Sparks SS 2 holster. The holster is made for a shorter barrel so the 4" 10-5 sticks out a little. It carries comfortably just behind the hip with forward cant. The problem is the slightly awkward draw, but that might be resolved with practice. The advantage of the 4" gun is extra bullet velocity.

I'm 5'9" and 3" is my limit, the 4" pushes up too much when I sit. Same thing with a 5" 1911, which is about the same size as a 4" revolver. 5'9" with a heavier or just different build could be different for some people.

I know two bigger guys that carry K-frames daily. One carries a 4" M65 and, the other switches between a 4" M15 and a M67. Both of them use a Milt Sparks Summer Special.

I still carry a 4 inch k frame on duty. When I am off I use a very stiff daletec force belt with either a kramer or milt sparks iwb. With the non checkered wood grips it disappears under a light t shirt or jacket. When its summer, or I'm in florida, the NP3 coated model 13 is carried.

I carry a 4" GP100 IWB pretty often.

It all comes down to forward cant so I can hide the grip.

I just like how this 4" GP is set up and so I feel confident with it and now that colder weather and longer shirts are coming out, I can carry it.

I carry either a 4" M10 or half-lug GP-100 .38 IWB. Like someone else mentioned before, a stiff gun belt makes a world of difference. However, my standard barrel 4" M10 carries OK in an old Bianchi #6 suede clip on IWB when I wear a tuxedo for my second job. The only drawback to this holster is that it closes up when the gun is drawn. Need a updated version that has a reinforced mouth for re-bolstering.

4" IWB

I carried a 4" Sq BT 65 IWB daily for ten years .....in a S&W scabbard holster with a spring steel clip....during those years I worked in a hot humid climate and covered the gun with a loose fitting shirt....also occasionally a 4" 29 or a full size 1911....never had any issues....

I carry an S&W M-19 in a BladeTech IWB. I use a Wilderness belt and carry two Comp IIIs in each front pocket. Very comfortable and comforting.

I often carry a 4" Colt Police Positive Special IWB. I carried a DS until I realized the extra barrel length was no problem and it makes huge difference in my accuracy. Works for me.

I have carried a 4" 19 in a IWB Kydex which was made for a 2 1/2" barrel .
It was very comfortable to carry all day while riding in a truck or walking around.
I've retired the 19 and now pack a 66 no dash 2 1/2".
