I see there is no forum here for S&W shotguns... so

I know some of you must. Mine is an old patrol car gun - cobbed up stock and poly-choke on a relatively short barrel. Seems to work fine however.

Question - does/do any of the tactical stuff for other shotguns fit this model? Grips, stocks, etc....

Thanks,
Tom

Smith brought these out when they were trying to be all things police..I believe that they bought the design from Noble and made some improvements in the design and then marketed in both police and civilian form..It was an OK unit..about the same as the Hi-Standards and Mossbergs of the era. But not in the same class as the two top cop shotguns of the time, the Rem. 870 and the classic Model 37 Ith. To answer your question...I don't believe anyone makes any tac. equipment for that model...My Dept. had Moss. and Hi-Standards as well as a couple of old Model 12s that were kept in reserve...And you could still find a few 97s if you looked in the storage lockers of some of the bigger depts. in my area..

I had a 916 for a while. I read all of the negative stuff on the web, but found mine to be an OK pump gun. Nothing fancy just solid, well built and functioned flawlessly. Made a good gun for small game hunting. I recently traded it off and sometimes kick myself wondering why. But who hasn’t traded off or sold a gun then had second thoughts??
Last I knew shotguns were long guns. So this post belongs right here in my opinion.

The tear gas launcher clamps on the barrel with a thumbscrew, it could fit. The patrol car lockable mount should work OK. Things like stocks and mag extentions I have seen are for the 3000 model only.

Wow. I was just going to post about this exact subject but you beat me to it. When my wife's grandfather died I acquired his shotgun, an Eastfield 916-A, made by S&W. Looks like a police riot gun that has spent some time in a cop's trunk with that well worn look. Other than that everything works/shoots fine. 3" chamber. It is my HD gun.

we sold those in our shops years ago, and then they switched over to the model 3000, a big improvement.........there is one for sale here locally, the guy has it in 'stainless' steel??.......I wonder if its really 'nickle'??
if you need, I may still have the original owners manual for the 916-A, let me know.......

I have 2 of the Model 3000P. They seem like fine shotgun's. I have only put about 20 rounds through them but they seem solid. Not sure why I bought them, just that they were S & W. Chop

Dant,
When would you put the time of manufacture at? Also, if you do have the owner's manual what would you want for it?

Hi TOM,My 916-A S&W shotgun is also long so I feel I'm ok on this forum. S&W had a barrel problem with the 916 and ended up replacing many of the barrels. I think they marked the new barrels with a W as I recall.I sent my 916 back to the factory about 25 years ago and they replaced the shoulder and pump stocks at no charge. It looks new and with the sling looks awesome. It's a nice combat shotgun.I

That was in the early 70s, we opened the first shop in 1973...the Eastfield models had the fixed' barrels, the 'T' had interchangible barrels...even saw some that came 'nickle plated' for "sea duty"???(marine use we'd guess...)
Yes, the model 3000 came along and was a BIG improvement over the Eastfield models, which if I remember correctly were a 'copy' of the Noble design.......
I finally found a couple fo the manuals, they are like 'brand new'...if you want one ,how about $10 shipped to you.......send me an e-mail........

I have a 916-T. 28" plain barrel MOD choke. Still use it as my duck gun. Not sure where all the negativity came from as this pump is as reliable as anything else I have come across. The only thing I ever replaced was a broken firing pin.

I'm looking to get a slug barrel if anyone has come across one.

Yup, I have a 916-T. Bought it in '78 for, I think, $150. Had it parkerized. The wear marks from the patrol unit's electric rack are still evident. I also stripped the original color from the stock and grip - changed it to a light Maple.

A very few of the run of 916 short barreled shotguns had 17.95" barrels.

I heard that S&W sent their reps out after finding out that these barrels were just a tad too short with new barrels that were 18 1/2" long in order to circumvent any legal stuff that might...let's say happen.

This is just hearsay and may have only been an old wives tale

Andy,
I'll measure mine to make sure...

Actually Blairsville is in the North (of Georgia...) I live west of Atlanta, used to live in White, near Lake Allatoona.
