This is a 40Limited I got from another member a while ago . The interesting part is this one was exported and then found its way back home . I know there weren't many of these made and then you have an exported one , the amount must be really small for these exported models . I was told it's 1/5 that were exported , but we know what's said about gun stories .

Included is my other 40 PC from the same member . It's one of the early one's with the Barstools barrel . Not the shooter that the Limited is , but it's still a PC gun , we all know what that means .

Another question , were the 40 PC guns among the first the PC shop put out ? Seems like most of my 40 PC guns I have the boxes for came in the early Doskocil boxes , which is what the early PC guns came in . So , any answers out there .......

Yes sir. The first two were .40 cal., (4006’s,) modified by Paul Liebenberg for competition by S&W Team members Tommy Campbell and Mike Plaxco.

I only have a wonderful Comp 40 that according to Earl @ Lew Horton were produced late 1991 to early 1992. Mine was delivered to LH in January 1992 and even though the total produced was 196, mine is 198.

From the pics shown, there doesn't appear to be any model markings other than the PC roll mark on the 40 limited, is this a valid observation?

No Trey , it's not even labeled as a 4006 . If I'm ever going to chase another 40 Jim , it's going to be a Comp like yours .

Your mentioning Paul made me remember something . A couple of weeks ago we went shooting on a Friday , which we don't do because it's open . We set up and an RO came over because he didn't know my buddy's an RO and on the Board of Directors . He saw a couple of my PC guns and we got to talking . Seems he was the mailman for that area and got to know the people in the PC shop . He has almost every PC gun and they were set up for him by the PC shop and personalised . They gave his grandsons personal tours and gave them all sorts of swag . He still stays in touch with those that are still alive .

Going through some of my PC 40 info I found this. It’s not my letter or pistol so I redacted part of it, the other was already redacted when I found it. Thought it is interesting, well to some.

Seems that the PCD run was confusing even back then.

Thanks a lot Jim . I had heard that only the first one's received the BarSto barrels , it's nice to see it in writing . This copy of an ad was included in my 40Limited , don't know where it came from . I dug out the box to my 40 Limited , the spec cord reads 7163 , so I'm guessing 1997 . I would think it would have been made before then , seeing it was in a Duskocil box .

AJ , if anyone should have the name cherrypointmarine , it's you . Considering the years you put in there , I would think you would have come up with it .

It’s very much like the 845 Limited. Neither pistol says 845 or 4006, however the box end label does.

The frame of the 4006 Limited is very much like the PPC-9. The top end of the 4006 Limited is very much like the 845.

Of all the full size PC .40 cal pistols, these were some of the last ones offered, unless I’m really forgetting something. All of the other .40cal PC full size guns predate the 4006 Limited.

I’m fortunate to have mine but I don’t shoot it nearly as much as I shoot my 845. That’s because I eventually bought a second 845 which makes my pea brain feel more comfortable about shooting the first 845 that I bought.

Roy Jinks has published in a factory letter that one of the first tasks of the newly formed Performance Center team was to finish up the final run of the Model 52 pistol. I am also fortunate in that I own one of those with a TZT-prefix.

The very, very, very first actual models put out by the S&W Performance Center were full customs where the plan was for a buyer to commission a build and spec out each detail. S&W soon found that this was going to be far too slow and not exactly profitable and shortly after, the models we are familiar with arrived.

Those full customs are scorchingly rare and barely ever seen anywhere, even on the internet they are damn difficult to find.

That would be the ultimate addendum to the next Standard Catalog of S&W . As many PC guns were made across the whole line , I would think if enough of us showed an interest , maybe this could be done . During their short run , compared to the whole S&W line , a lot of history was made . And the work they put out is second to none .

Could you imagine that. Where’s the Wayback Machine?

Something else kinda interesting is a copy of an original PCE Comp 40 Jovino sales receipt I found. It’s dated Jan 1, 1992 and is for $1,450.00. Looked it up and that’s $3,502 today.

I copied the images that were originally posted here. (Maybe BLUEDOT37 ?)
