I love guns and I love beautiful grips. A few years ago, I started making grips for the 1911 from various exotic woods and really enjoy doing it. This is just a hobby for me, and it will stay that way. I make them to give to friends and family, having no desire to get into the "business". Anyway, I thought I would post up a few pictures for your pleasure (hopefully).

Left to right, Afzelia Burl, Amboyna Burl, Buckeye Burl, Circassion Walnut, Desert Ironwood Burl.

Nice grips/stocks at the OP and I am sure your friends really appreciate the gesture. I am still trying to find someone that can put in Mercury dimes in a nice set I have that are plain. Always wanted to get a carved set of ivory grips too, but don't see them that often and when I have in the past years they have been very pricey. Keep up the good work.

Those look great kscharlie. I wouldn't mind being your friend too. :D Really, those are real nice. Heck, you could always make a few pairs when the whim hits you and sell them in the Classifieds. That way it isn't a job in the sense of taking orders from people, but gives you a chance to get some payment back for acquiring new woods to make yourself more 1911 stocks.

Just to give you an idea of what someone like myself would pay for a set of exotic wood quality stocks, I paid around $100 for a set of Ziricote wood panels for my Coonan Classic, which is a 1911 style pistol made for shooting 357 Magnum ammo. The Coonan won't take regular 1911 grips since the magwell is deeper than a normal 1911 in order to swallow the longer 357 cartridge.

Wow, you've got some amazing grips going!

I'll second the idea, if you ever decide to make some cash on the side, posting grips here would be an easy way to do it. I'll add, that I'd probably be interested as well.

Really nice choice of figured woods! You have a good eye for natural beauty in wood grain, pattern and coloring. I did about 10+ years of woodworking and did not do one single project for $$ all were given as gifts and that put no burden on me of trying to meet a deadline.

Continue to enjoy it and reward your chosen recipients:)

Very nice work. I am a retired Chief of Police in CO. I carried a custom 1911 as a work gun for many years and still love them over all the plastic wonder 9mm's out there although I own some of them. I would love to have a nice set of your grips on my custom CT Brian 1911 to dress it up.
