Anyone else into Dan Wesson revolvers? (Pic)

I always wanted an original Monson Dan Wesson Arms .357 Magnum Revolver (ideally a whole Pistol Pac!). It is one of the great failings of my life that I never got one. Life's crazy unexpected circumstances intervened, crushed me financially and ended my late-70's/early-80's shooting & handgun collecting hobby dead in its tracks for decades before I could ever get my hands on one. :(

Lately, I have kept my eyes open, but I never seem to find an original Monson one for sale that's in really nice collectible shape. If I find one at all, it is a later Palmer gun and/or simply not in good enough condition to justify the high asking price. :o

Who knows? It might still happen someday but I've given up holding my breath.

I stumbled onto an early Monson 715VH with an 8" barrel a couple of months ago at a local sporting goods and firearms store. It was in the original styrofoam box with cardboard slipcover. Bewdiful single action trigger! Finish nearly perfect - not purple at all. I tried to haggle, but they had it listed on GunBroker too. I walked in with NO intention of buying a gun and... walked out with the 715.

Note: I had been looking for a 715 "pistol pack" for months on GunBroker but the bidding was crazy (for me). Sure would like to find a blued 4" barrel for mine.

Waiting on a new camera to take good pics of the 715, but have attached a pic of a 744VS with 6" barrel. It is a beautiful beast! Built like a tank and quite accurate.

About 10 years ago I picked up a .22LR Pistol Pack.
Four barrels, 8", 6", 4", and 2". Two grips. Tools, extra sights. Case with key. Belt buckle. Jacket patch. Near perfect condition.
I don't remember what I paid for it, but I'm a cheapskate, soooo . . ..

I've been keeping a casual eye out for a .357 PP, now.
I'm not a collector nor do I have ANY expertise. I have read that there a some, possibly a series or serial number range, that are problems.

I'd sure like some "take it to the bank" info on that.

Regarding the 357 SuperMag, colt saa, how do you get ammo? I reload a lot, so if there's a useable shell, I can make the stuff.
One wag on the internet said: "Maybe you should just wait until the .357 Super Duper Amazing Maximum Magnum ammo comes out and get a gun for that? :neener:"

Prices seem low, something I think I remember about the .22 Pistol Pack. I saw a "41", 357 SuperMag in the internet for $440 today. Tempting, but it comes with two 8" barrels, and I'd want at least one of 6" or shorter.

I really don't want a difficult-to-get caliber, especially if I have to get some dies for the press. Probably best for me to stick to the .357 Magnum.

I know the Hornady reloading book has a page or 2 dedicated to that cartridge, but I don't have it infront of me at the moment. Not sure if it was a stretched .357, or a different parent case that was shortened.....

Used some Renaissance wax to shine up my 15-2 last night. If read a lot about it and finally bought a VERY small jar ($15) gotta say.... It's good stuff so far. Makes fingerprints just wipe right off and really helps the bluing to "pop."

Please excuse the Colt that butted his way into the photo.

Wouldn't that be "plummed"? :D

I, too, have come across more than a few Dan Wesson revolvers with various shades of plum coloring on the frame. Can you explain to me why that happens?

Your way was the way I originally spelled it. But the spell check said it was wrong. So I did what the spell check said. OK?

The reason Dan Wesson's turn plum is because of the alloy used in the frame, different from what is used in the shrouds. My 2 DW's have "plumed" & not one drop of WD40 has ever touched either.

DW 22V

I bought a Monson .22 from my son-in-law a few years back. It had the 8" barrel and I was able to find a NOS period-correct 4" barrel for it (inset picture).

It came in a genuine naugahyde Dan Wesson carry case with the original barrel wrench and BC gap gauge.

As best I can tell, it's a 1979 gun. Fantastic polished blue finish with no signs of "plumming".
