Anyone Else Like The War Baby?

Nearly all of the WWII Carbines had their original stocks replaced with new M2 style stocks during the postwar rebuild program. Along with new safeties, bayonet studs and rear sights.

According to the post war technical manual the flip sight, push safety and barrel band were indeed updated to the latest version post war.

Stocks not so much. Unless a stock was damaged or if the carbine was being converted to full auto M2 configuration, the stock was not replaced post war.

Were the M2 stocks beefed up for the full auto feature?

Stocks made specifically for the M2 have AJ's aforementioned lever cutout on the left side, and were "potbellied" in profile. Meaning a slight curve downward and thicker than previous stocks.

But IIRC, the "potbelly" predates the M2 and there are numerous examples of such without the lever cutout.

So the answer is "kind of " imo. 🙂

A good example is in Post #33's pics by wundudnee showing a Potbelly stock in the lower pic.
