With the .22 shortage I have been unable to shoot .22 much and reluctant to buy a .22 gun. Well, through one generous member here, I landed some .22s. Then I got my hands on a Ruger Mark III Hunter.

Today I got to the range with intentions on working on some shooting with a .45 I'll have to do at a class this weekend. As I was leaving it hit me that I should start with the Mark III so, I did.

Man, I love shooting .22s! What fun. More than that, it was a great warm up for the .45 and I believe I shot better because of it.

What about y'all? Do you have as much fun with .22s as I do?

Well I sure have in the past-- and of late when the weather is a bit better. No need to worry about ammo and even added this little 22 last year. Not looking for much these days as I have sent most everything down the road, but still have enough. :) Very little beats a few hours with a 22. :)

I'm 67, been shooting 22's since I was 9. Cant even estimate the numbers, used to buy bricks for $5.00, ground squirrels, countless antique bottles at old home steads and silhouettes. Made our own swinging targets when the kids were little. And now the grandkids, 22's rock the world for an avid shooter. and so much fun. I have probly 10,000 rnds. but going fast with the shortage, due mainly now to grandkids.

There is nothing like the .22! It's easy to shoot well, quiet, [relatively] inexpensive, and accurate.

The most fun I have at my club is with my H&R Model 12... :)

The other day I was plinking clothespins off of Mrs. Hillbilly's clothesline with my SR22.

(Don't tell her that! :D)

I very much enjoy shooting 22s. I can shoot for hours bouncing around bottle caps at 100yds with my FV-SR at the Plinking range and never get bored. Pistols are even more fun bouncing shotgun hulls around and steel flip targets. For AR fun without the cost of centerfire ammo my 15-22 is great. I've got several other 22s but these three get the most use. I don't much care for shooting at paper. I want something to bounce, break or tink when I hit it. Suppressed plinking... :)

This thread brought back memories of buying 22LR in boxes of 50 at the Western Auto Store as a kid. I'd stock up for our trip to visit my Grandma's farm in central Texas. It wasn't safe to be a tin can anywhere near her barn!

I was 10 or 11 at the time and didn't have to show photo ID as long as I had the coins in my pocket to pay.

BTW, I never did shoot anybody nor rob any convenience stores.

I shoot the snot out of my .22s great fun, and good practice. Even at today's prices it's still a cheap date.

I probably own more .22s than any other caliber. A good .22, a set of swingers and various targets of opportunity make for a great day. :D

Something I enjoyed "putting together" This winter. Ruger 10/22 Stainless/syn. All Kidd internals,HIGHLY polished inside & out. Leupold 2x7 matte finish "rimfire special". After looking back, gosh I put a lot of money in this thing.I have even fired it yet.It sure like money tho, will take all I put into it! lol

I got away from 22s awhile but got back again with a vengeance and have several now. I even built an AR in 22lr so I could shoot more often. I bought a bunch of 22lr before the shortage and am set for the duration I hope. I always take a S&W model 17 at least when I go shooting. They always get interest at the range too.
They were the first I ever shot at summer camp in grade school and the perfect caliber to start someone in shooting.

S&W makes a great 22LR revolver, the 617. With a 10 round cylinder, 4 inch barrel, it is a great looking and shooting gun. Probably the best all around survival gun you could own; perfect for small game, high capacity and accurate. Its also a great gun to use if introducing new shooters to the sport. With virtually no recoil, not loud, and no flying cases that can intimidate a new shooter it is perfect for overcoming a beginner's fear of guns. I love it because it allows me to spend time at the range without the cost of ammo becoming excessive as it easily is for the other calibers that I shoot.

This thread got me to thinking about all the .22s that I have accumulated. I have always liked .22s, and I started making a list in my head. I have a little bit of everything: Ruger, Walther, NAA, S&W, Browning, GSG, Remington, Henry, Taurus, Stevens, Colt, Stoeger, Anchutz, Winchester, CZ . . . . They are all fun to shoot. I probably have way more .22s than I should have.

Right now my favorites are my S&W 18, a GSG 1911, and a Browning Buckmark that I put a holographic sight on. As far as a favorite rifle - one of my 10/22s. I have several set up different ways, and one I customized is an absolute tack driver, which is probably my favorite. The set of peeps that I put on it are just darn friendly with my ole eyes.

Best Wishes,
Tom

The 22 is what I started with. I got a S&W Model 41 and started competitive target shooting. I routinely ordered 22 by the case (5000) at a time. Those days are now gone. I progressed from there to centerfire and more refined target guns. Shooting is like a disease. Once you get bitten by the bug you need to shoot more often and buy more guns. It happens to everybody. AIN'T IT GREAT????????

I only have about 15 .22's. I can tell you they are the most shot handgun's I own. My most recent purchase was a 1981 Mod 34-1 that is 9%. Probably mo most used one is the IZH35M which is my bullseye gun and it gets shot every week.

You bet--especially when you have one of these to fire them with:

And a new cimarron 1873 Artillery six-shooter as well:
