Anyone else love the .22LR?

My dad's 1946 Remington Targetmaster that he got new as a kid..

One of my many "sayings" is "You don't have to have a big gun to have big fun." If you like to shoot and don't have at least one .22lr hand gun and one .22lr long gun then you are missing a lot of fun.

A point to ponder

Why not a 22LR on the N frame?

For the ham fisted gal'oots :)

It's been done all ways but, S&W should beat Taurus to the punch once again for ol' time sake.

Man, you guys have me beat. I've only got 4 .22 guns; 1911-22, Mark III Hunter, Mark II and the old stand by 10-22.

I'm still being a little gun shy(pun intended) about shooting my limited supply. Still, they are just too much fun to leave sitting in the safe.

I used to be heavy on the 22 LR.
Over the past 20 years or so .. not so much. I guess I lost interest in it when I discovered reloading.
What I'd love to see is the 30 cal carbine round make a widespread comeback. revolvers, auto pistols, rifles of all configurations ....
Develop a few plinking loads for them and rock out on the cheap.

ChattanoogaPhil, not certain what scope you've got there but I've got pretty much the same setup on my Savage FV SR. It is quieter than my pellet rifle. Just wish there was an after market stock for it without a thumbhole.
Good shooting!

My wife's first gun was a Ruger SR22, and she recently acquired an M&P15-22, and she absolutely loves it. The shortage of the ammo is a concern; however, I personally do not like the rounds. Perhaps this is a personal issue that my wife and I are doing something wrong; but every time we go to the range, the guns jam multiple times. It is always a feeding issue, and the rounds get stuck in the chamber, also get many double feeds.

We've tried several different types of ammunition, and they all seem to do it. Other than that, shooting her 22s are so much fun…but I'll stick with my 9mm :)

My favorite is my Remington Nylon 66 that I bought in 1972 at Sears & Roebuck for about 70 bucks. I think ammo then was about 50 cents for a box of 50 rounds. My wife's favorite is her Ruger 10-22 that cost about 3 times what mine did. We haven't shot either one in over a year because we don't want to shoot the ammo we have on hand. I have numerous bricks of 22, but replacing them is almost impossible.

First gun, cap pistol and water gun, second, a BB rifle, third, my 22 rifle. Loved it, I have never shot 22 ammo in a hand gun.
Think it would be fun. Other weapons of choice as a youngster.
Pea Shooter, sling-shot, and of course a heavy stick.

With the .22 shortage I have been unable to shoot .22 much and reluctant to buy a .22 gun. Well, through one generous member here, I landed some .22s. Then I got my hands on a Ruger Mark III Hunter.

Today I got to the range with intentions on working on some shooting with a .45 I'll have to do at a class this weekend. As I was leaving it hit me that I should start with the Mark III so, I did.

Man, I love shooting .22s! What fun. More than that, it was a great warm up for the .45 and I believe I shot better because of it.

What about y'all? Do you have as much fun with .22s as I do?

I have positively adored .22 LR firearms since I was a child. I still have the little Win. 190 my parents gave me for Christmas (ca. 1968). My number one most favorite and most used handgun in a S&W 18-3 followed closely by a RIA 1911-A1 that has a .22 LR Marvel 1911 conversion mounted on the frame.

In an appropriate firearm the .22 LR makes an excellent understudy to center-fire calibers such as the .38/.357 and .45 ACP. The money saved makes it possible for one to do a lot more shooting.

.22? never heard of it, is that a new caliber none of the stores in my area stock any ammo for it.... maybe i'll see one before to long. lol

Boyd's makes aftermarket stocks without thumbhole. That's a Boyd's on my FVSR.

Scope is 30mm SWFA fixed 16x. Over 100moa adjustment. With a 20moa scope base can shoot as far as you like. Rings are TPS SL (super low)

I can't think of the last time I went to the range without at least one .22lr pistol or rifle. They are a blast to shoot and in the scheme of things, the ammo is still somewhat inexpensive (when available of course).
