Anyone else not shoot their long guns often?

I've got the same box of 06 shells I bought over 10 years ago. I sighted in the rifle when new and hunt every year but I bet it is close to half full. I did pick up a Savage 99 (1946 vintage) and have been shooting that a bit, but, yeah, they don't get shot much nowadays.

Heck, my range is my back yard.

  1. The guy with whom I used to shoot rifles moved to Seattle.
  2. I got laid off and driving an hour to shoot my expensive 600 yard ammunition (that I handload) is a luxury which I can't afford.

I don't remember the last time I fired a long gun other than at groundhogs. I do shoot my .22 lr's both long guns and handguns more than anything else. Always have, always will...I love them!

I know the last long gun was one of the .22's and I remember it was at the range early this spring maybe?

The groundhogs don't seem to notice my lack of practice time, I've got a pretty high hit percentage right now!

I find that when I now say that "I'm going shooting", it normally means handguns at an indoor range. My outdoor club with a rifle range is an hour and a half from home, the indoor pistol range is 15 minutes.
