Anyone go on vacation this summer?

This year was the Great Western Adventure - Colorado, South Dakota, Wyoming, and a sliver of Montana. The big attraction was Yellowstone.

Lots of other stuff, though. :D

The Fedora Chronicles Electric Speakeasy: Vacation '11 - now with PICTURES

Taking our annual long weekend to Pigeon Forge, TN the middle of October when the wife has her Fall Break and staying in a condo off the beaten path. I've never been to the Smoky Mtn Knife Works store, but I'm going this time.

We spent a week on Lake Norman in NC, near my wife's family, with a pontoon boat, which turned out to be a really nice laid back vacation. And found a cool pawn shop in Mooresville, the Aisle Pawn, which had more used guns than I had ever seen, in cases to the ceiling. Some of the prices seemed high but then found that the posted prices were negotiable. I was able to find a perfect condition used holster for my 4" 19-2 in their bin, only $10.

I had 2 vacations, first the wife and family went to Texas for 2 weeks. Beard and sleeping late heaven. Then went with the wife to Key West for a couple days. Don't drink and couldn't afford a charter for just the 2 of us. You're pretty much done after eating at the trendy spots and Sloppy Joe's. Joe

We went to Orlando in May to visit some family that we haven't seen in years. Since I worked on Disney World when it was being built we spent a day there also. In August we took the grandkids to San Deigo. Our son is stationed there so his son and the rest of us had a nice visit. We went to Sea World, the SD Zoo and then up to Disneyland for two days. On the way home we stopped at the Grand Canyon and the kids really liked that too. The rest of the summer we spent in the "Texas Heat" and we are looking for some relief.

After FINALLY recovering from the Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, I made my annual trip to the Rockville Regatta on Wadmalaw Island, near Charleston, SC, and spent time with many of my medical school buddies. It was our 46th reunion!

I went body boarding at the outer banks in the roughest surf I've ever seen (I haven't seen much). I almost drown once, got stung by a jelly fish, and cracked or broke a rib that I still can't sleep on. This happened the first week of August.

That's the honest truth. The wave that got my rib was way over my head. It caught my board and smashed it into my side and then turned me into a washing machine agitator almost drowning me. As I tried to make my way back to shore a jelly fish stung me. I fought the sea and the sea won, big time.

Gasman, sounds like a good time was had by all, really I hope you are on the mend by now. I was in Kitty Hawk and Duck a month after you were there. Surf was rough but not Overwhelming like you experienced.

The best time to visit any of the NC beaches is just after labor day. Prices on most things are about 50% less, a lot fewer tourists, and both the water and weather are still nice.
