During a LGS visit yesterday, I found a new one on me - the PC637 Wyatt Deep Cover, SKU #170347 - marked $480, only $30 over their basic 637 price. It supposedly has a bobbed hammer, chromed trigger, polished cylinder, 'Gunsmoke' logo on the barrel, and a PC Shop 'improved action'. I thought it had a normal 637 hammer and the trigger wasn't as slick as my well broken-in 642. Anyone have one of these and like to give your opinion? Thanks!

Hi Stainz! Gonna start doing my HG shopping in your neighborhood. What prices! Just bought the 637PC and I love it the way I love all J-frames: passionately. Just put 120+ rounds through it: FMJ burn-up ammo and various +Ps. It shoots MOPP (Minute of Pie Plate) at 5 yards with double-taps. This is what I require of my Js. Next time, will open it up to 7 yards, surprising how big a difference that makes over 5 yards, at least for me!

The finish features are what attracted me, but I don't care for the grip, a knock-off of the old Barami Hip-Grip. Easy to change out and I have. Action is DAO: if you shoot a 642, you'll have no problem.

One negative: The rebound slide spring ('trigger return spring') is softer than any of my other Js. Have heard this was done to lighten the trigger pull. When cleaning the gun, the action skipped on dry fire: the hammer was not going back while the cylinder rotated. This cleared up when I gently re-lubed the action after cleaning, but I may have a standard weight spring installed. The mainspring seems standard weight: all rounds fired perfectly, even the cranky Armscor burn-up ammo.

Many folks seem to dislike the markings on the gun. I ignore them, the way I ignore the "Ladysmith" etching on my Model 60 .357. Everyone needs one of these guns. Or two...

Hope this helps. Let me know please.

the wyatt 637 has a polished/contoured trigger, polished cylinder flutes, bobbed hammer, and an 'action job' which I can only equate to a spring kit, as well as the hip grips. And the gunsmoke logo/wyatt deep cover line on the side.

I bought one Saturday, and the firing pin sticks. Submitted a warranty label request and am still waiting on the shipping label from S&W, gonna call them to see if I can expedite it as this is a carry arm for me.

I do have to say I like it though thus far. It's pretty good in the hand despite how small it is and I have big hands, so that says something. I hate smaller guns normally but love this one. Just need to get it running right.

I bought two, one for me and one for my sister. I happen to like the polished trigger/bobbed hammer/flutes. I also like that it came from the PC shop and has their logo. The Gunsmoke logo is what it is....doesn't mean I have to like the show or the owner/guys. :D

Was able to shoot it this weekend and had no malfunctions. I used Buffalo Bore .38 Special Ammo for short barrels, low flash, standard pressure 158 gr and 125 gr jacketed hollow point. I just purchased some Hornady 110 gr Personal Defense/Hydrashok and tomorrow my Hornady 90 gr Critical Defense ammo arrives. For range ammo I used Federal Eagle 158 gr just because it's all I had but I'd like to get a case or two of wadcutters (I think some thread said 148 gr target wadcutters had pretty low recoil) .

Put VZ Tactical Diamond G10 grips on both guns. The "pointed" texture does bite into the hand but it's what I wanted and gives me a fantastic grip. If I ever have to use the gun in a defensive situation neither the recoil or some discomfort from the grips is going to matter. I'm able to stay on target so I'm happy. Next time at the range I'll just wear a shooting glove if shooting more than 10-20 rounds.

StainZ -- wow $480 is a great price, won't see that price around here!!! Can't give you any comments on a comparison to other .38 SPCL snub J frames because the only other one I have is a model 60 Pro Series 3".

jcat -- sorry to hear about your problems and I know it's disappointing but S&W will take care of you. I used there website to request warranty work on my NIB 686 and they had a label emailed to me within two days. On 6/24 I sent in my gun and got it back today (7/2). The issue was tooling marks in the charging holes (some quite bad) and they said they "repaired to their standards: replaced cylinder". Fast turnaround time for that repair but it may have been an easy one. Still I'm impressed with their warranty service (I know, I know.....shouldn't have left the factory that way).

A horrible picture of one of them....but it's all I have for now.......

You can get PC shop work for $30. Great bargain. If the Gunsmoke shop had done the same things, it would have been easily $1200. I remember the episode where they went to show them their creation and ask about getting credit for it by way of a new model.

Loved the show, but the owner can get on your nerves quickly. The gun smithing skill was obviously with his workers.

So... 'Gunsmoke' doesn't refer to the long running old TV show with Marshall Dillon... oops!

As to price - Davidson's lists SKU #170347 at MSRP $549.99 and retail $471.99. Of course, dealers set their own price.

Locally at the last gunshow (which is normally cheaper than the actual store) was $550 and $599. On Gunbroker sometimes you can get one for $500 plus shipping but you never know how the auction is going to go since most of them do not had a "buy now" (unless it was very high). Sooner or later the local/GB prices will come down. One dealer on GB was selling for $525 and I noticed yesterday that he's now selling for $500 so I guess things are calming down. I wanted to check the gun out so had to buy locally..........bummer. But at least they had some in stock.

I don't see much there that I like over a basic 642 model.

And I am willing to bet the action isn't noticeable over one either.

I handled one of those PC637's recently and it had a nice light smooth trigger pull. Had the bobbed hammer & smooth trigger that I like too. What I didn't like was the gunsmoke/wyatt graphics but a guy could spray-paint right over that...
Foolish me, I originally thought the "Wyatt" had something to do with Wyatt Earp.
