Looking for thoughts good & bad about the Ruger LCP. I would like to get a small .380 and the PPk is just too heavy.

I have one that I purchase for my oldest daughter. Both of us shot it last weekend and I would buy it again. I have several model 36's that she shot and like the size better, but for concealment the Ruger is better for her. The Ruger is in a shoot through billfold holster and fits in a front or back pocket with no outline. Hope this help...jr

Cajun, I have had one for about 6 months, I can't find anything wrong with it. I have shot it probably, 450 times no misfeeds, it shoots every time you pull the trigger.I do wish that it came in stainless.I keep it in a pocket holster, and it disappears.

I was looking at these when they were new..
I've heard there was a recall & Ruger took care of that & the new ones have the upgrade..
Know that the Ruger was copied from the Kel-Tec P3AT which was copied from the Grendel P-10..
I want one of these too, But don't wanna distress my J Frames that away.. not Just YET!!
I'm gonna hold off a while longer or untill .380 ammo becomes less expensive & more available..
Now if they could make this in a 9mm at that size I'm onboard..
These LCPs are Very Tiny & Lightweight..
A great Pocket Pistol IMO.. If they work 100% always..

I had one and I'm glad that it's gone. It had a lousy trigger and, since I have pretty big hands, it would pinch my trigger finger when the trigger returned to the firing position.

Yes. What would you like to know?

In a nutshell it is a Kel Tec in Ruger clothing. It is pretty much a direct copy other than it has a metal recoil spring rod. It is a slick little gun. I carry it daily if not carrying my Kahr PM9. It is very accurate and much easier to shoot than a snub nose plus 2 more shots.
Here in Fl, its shorts and t shirts so you forget it's even in your pocket.

If you have a KT 380 than I would not buy one other than the overall looks is a little nicer, not as industrial as the KT. I have both and like them both.

The KT worked fine right out of the box. The Ruger went back twice. Once for not feeding every HP I wanted it to and once due to the drop recall. But received and free magazine and a baseball cap for that. Woopie!
I like pocket mouse guns so I tend to collect them. The Walther (not a pocket gun) is a tank compared to these. My PPK is back at SW for the 3rd time. They screwed it up on the recall. I worked fine before they fixed it.

The Micro Eagle is a well built little gun and made out of real stainless(some think it ugly) Also nice is the Kahr 380 which has a slide lock back feature but both are a a lot more expensive'

Here is a quick comparison:

Had one, didn't care for it. The long trigger pull and I didn't get along.

Don't have an LCP but I do have a pre-LCP P3AT. It's a good gun, small, slim, accurate, used to be my BUG, these days it goes with me when I can't carry anything else. Not the easiest thing in the world to shoot but I've qualified with it, including shooting out to 25 yds. The gun can handle it if you can and I assume that includes the LCP since it's basically the same piece only better looking.

I've owned mine for 1.5 yrs and like it a lot. Can't really say I have any complaints.

While I have liked and used various models and variations of the Chief's Specials for 40 years I have to tell you that I very much like and enjoy using and carrying the LCP. It has always worked with my chosen Speer Gold Dot load and it is much easier to carry in a pants pocket when I am not wearing a coat or light jacket. During colder times I go the opposite and generally carry a 3in. K or L framed Smith 357.

Bought one for my wife about 7 months ago. She really likes it. Very lightweight and easily concealable. She prefers to carry it over her 642 now.

Have had one for little over six months originally bought it for the wife. She does prefer her Mdl 60 2" At first ammo was a bear to acquire but that has seemed to lightened up a bit lately. Now I take it to the range on each outing and run a couple magazines thru it each trip( as I don't have to horde ammo). No complains with the gun itself , there does seem to be a flood of them on the market, currently GB has a ton listed and all our local gun haunts have several under glass in their showcases. Prices run anywheres from $260 to $300 locally OTD. Be sure to look for post-recall s/n prefix 371 or 372. Would buy again, great pocket carry:)

I've shot one, but I'm going to wait on the little Taurus, which looks as though it has a bigger trigger guard that will fit bigger fingers.

By that time, .380 ammunition should be available.

Never reloaded it, but I do have dies and a bucket of brass with .380 mixed in it, so I'm set. I just need to get some JHP bullets for it. :p

I bought the LCP when it first came out. Good little gun. Sent it back for the recall. It has never missed a beat and it is a great little CC pistol. However it is not fun to shoot. I shoot 1-2 magazines out of when I go to the range just to keep my skills up and make sure it is still working OK.

I bought a Sig P238 for my wife, it is similar in size to the LCP but is 5 ounces heavier, has a better grip and has an external safety. She prefers the Sig over the LCP.

I like mine. Great little gun easy to carry and not bad to shoot if using standard ball ammo. The little gun will bark at you when shooting Golden Saber.

Elsie P

I have had Miss Elsie for about 6 months now. Have fired upward of 500 rounds, both hp and fmj. Never misses a beat! Whiter thou goest so does she. Weighs 9 oz loaded with Federal Hydra Shoks! Not the best cartridge in the world if/when the SHTF, but better than a sharp stick or a rock! And, the thing about it, you'll carry it! I have both a Blackhawk pocket holster and a Fobus retainer. Both work well. In fact, with a long tailed shirt, the Fobus can be carried, as the LCP is a very flat weapon.

I'd buy one again! If/when they come out with the 9mm version, which is rumored to be in the works, I'll definitely buy one of those as well.
