Anyone have experiance with a Dog that has Diabetes

Awwww.... GO ABBEY! What a sweet looking girl.

Glad you are on your way to getting her regulated. Did the vet say why they don't want you home testing right away? Being able to look at the dog's BG level at any particular time on my own made a HUGE difference for my own peace of mind. Also, the stress of being at the vet can throw off a dog's BG levels and make for a distorted BG curve.

hehe... looks like you caught the disease early before any significant weight loss... ;)
Lucy was skin & bones by the time I got her.

I wish the best for you and your dog. I guess I'm a little on the dim side. I had no idea dogs or any animals other then humans got diabetes.

Dogs usually get the type of diabetes that can only be managed with insulin injections. Cats usually get the type that can be controlled with diet. There are exceptions of course. Managing canine diabetes with diet alone is very rare.

Just occurred to me. Is Abbey spayed? The heat cycle plays hob with regulating BG levels. Getting Lucy spayed was a first order of business when we got her.

EDIT: Oh wait. She's 11YO. Are heat cycles an issue at that age?
