I've slated a portion of this year's uniform allowance toward getting my recently acquired 4013 slicked up a little and ready for duty. In particular, I'm interested in a front night sight and trigger job to smooth out and lighten the pulls. (SA breaks around 7lbs, DA is a touch gritty)

While I could buy the sight, a few springs from Wolff and do it myself, Novak's prices are quite reasonable and the shop is only an hour's drive away. Been thinking of paying Mr. Novak a visit and letting him work his magic.

Anyone had one if their 3rd Gens worked on by Novak?

Yup, had a 4567 that I sent off back in '92. Amazing difference, one more gun I wish I still had sigh.

I've also had multiple Colt 1911s worked on Novak's, very happy with all of the work ever performed.

I live in the same town where Novak is located and I've had a few things done there. Always do a great job! Cool guys too.

I don't think they work on them anymore but maybe they are now?

They still list them on their website. I do realm reading somewhere that they aren't taking on any more 1911 work for the time being, other than sights.

He's good to go. Just make sure that you talk to him directly about the work and time frame.

I talked to them last year and was told that they no longer do the 3rd Gens. Keep us posted if you have any luck.

Well that's too bad... Thanks for the info!

I second Redrock's suggestion for Karl Sokol of Chestnut Mountain Sports. I used to work with Karl when he and I were on the same PD in Mass. He has been in the business for probably 30 years and in addition to being a S&W factory trained armorer he has decades of custom gunsmithing experience.

Karl is a one man shop but he does excellent work and his prices are reasonable. He customized the hard chromed 3914 in my avatar picture for my wife back in 1993. That gun is still as amazing as it was when he built it. Looks great and a dream to shoot!

An alternate suggestion to consider: talk to Karl Sokol. See his site here: Karl Sokol Chestnut Mountian Sports Gunsmithing Services He knows his way around third gens like few working smiths can honestly claim.
