Sorry if this aint the correct place to ask but, I was wondering how much a leather Garand sling might cost and where can you find them? A good friend of mine wants to buy one.

Try posting on the CMP forum. I have used the standard Springfield on mine as well as a canvas one.

Prices vary on quality and authenticity but generally under $50.

Muchos gracias. Are they aso a good source to buy from? $50 sounds like a good price. I have oen myself--but it came on a rifleI bought about 18 years ago so I never was aware of values.

I got mine, the leather style with the brass hooks, from Cheaper than Dirt, but wouldn't buy one from them now if they were the only slings left in existence.

I have been shooting vintage military rifle matches since 2000. Before that I just carried and used USGI rifles for hunting, recreational range shooting, etc. I've found that the 1907 sling is just about perfect for use at the range or in the field. I've had some that after a year or two of use were in pitiful condition. I've got one on my current 03 match rifle that is still going strong after 11 years.

I would suggest you buy the best grade of leather sling you can find. I have been very pleased with the slings I have purchased from Turner Saddlery. Below is a link to their site. There you can do some reading and find the sling that will best meet your needs. Take a look at the National Match seconds. I bought a couple of these for use w/ my M-1 rifles. I have found them to be excellent in every respect.

I have also included a link to Les Tam. I have not personally used any of his slings. Other folks I know have used his slings and have found them to be of excellent quality.

HTH. Sincerely. brucev.

NM Sling Seconds - Turner Saddlery Inc

I THINK mine might be a Turner's. I have a 1917, 1903, Garand and a Krag, so I don't remember which is which. I've also used military style on my hunting rifles since I was a teen (50 yrs ago).

Add to that the memory isn't what it was.

Another recommendation for Turner slings. I think I might have bought one of their seconds and could not find the defect.
