So I found one and put it on layway. There isn't much information about this gun on the 'net. Does anyone know how many Model 65 Ladysmiths are out there?

Not sure if you mean rare in the context of how many were made or if you mean rare for the fact you don't see many for sale anymore. It is considered a sought after gun and people just don't get rid of them that often. I lucked up in finding mine and got it for what I consider a great price. I love the looks of the full lug 3 inch barrel. Mine will be left in my will!

There are lots of adjectives we can apply to the M65 LadySmith, cool, neat, desireable, sought after, etc., however rare isn't one of those. the earlier guns are a bit more desireable (hammer mounted firing pins) and bring a slight premium.

I wanted to know how many were made :-D

The one I put on layaway is a hammer mounted firing pin. It was priced at 349$ but rang up at 329$ for layaway (big store)

How many were made? Don't know. But you've got one on layaway at $329... Excellent! I may not know anything about the numbers produced but I do know you are buying an outstanding revolver and a very good price.

well I saw one SELL here at my local pushers about a month ago for a hair over 800 if that tells you anything, so you stole it don't give it back, run like hell

I'd say you've done very well.

I picked this one up, in LNIB condition, with box, papers, etc..., last year for $475.00, and was happy to get it.

Wow, what great prices! I believe there is another, possibly "rare" M65, called a "Hunter Smith" with a 3-inch shrouded barrel, that is very close in design to the LS, except no LS markings, standard finish on the stainless, and I think, different grips.

Would it be wrong of me to have S&W refinish it and do an action job on the revolver?

What's interesting is that I don't see a finish option for Satin Stainless. Maybe I'll get it high polished instead.

Wrong? It's your gun, do as you wish.

Does it need to be refinished? What kind of shape is is in? what are your complaints about the action as it is? Are you looking at this as a collectable, or as a gun to be used/carried?

Call S&W, they'll tell you what the can/can't do for you.

Good luck,
Bob S.

honestly the lady smiths tend to carry abit of a premium, so I would sell it to a collector and get a standard model 60 3" to refinish and carry so the collectors could have the collectable
