About 2 blocks from 1 Police Plaza in Manhattan, there was a gunshop that newly retired guys would go to to sell their revolvers. When the switch two semi autos happened in 1993, guys would sell their old duty revolvers when they got a 9MM. I know of one guy who retired and just proclaimed "my locker is open. Take what you want". His Model 10 and 36 were first to be grabbed. Unfortunately I was off that day.
That gunshop used to give $40 for Model 10's and $50 for Model 36's. Slightly less for the spurless hammer revolvers. They'd sell the Model 10's for $100 and the 36's for $150. You'd go in and root through milk crates of guns and choose.
I never took advantage of it. I wish I had.

I have a Mod 37;not a target gun but it will hold its full,non +P .158gr SWC

Here's a couple
First, a 65-3 Oklahoma State Patrol, one of the more accurate guns I own. The original magnas were heavily worn on the right panel and these replacements of unknown provenance (Eagle?) fit my hand like a glove. Points like my finger. Carried a lot, shot little.
And a 28-2 New York State Police, a treat with major magnums. The pic doesn't show it, but the finish is a mess, having been sprayed with some substance, which I removed and cold blued. Potential candidate for a pro job.
This 19-4 belonged to a nearby small town chief, or so the story goes
Nickle with target trigger, hammer, and stocks w/yellow front sight insert. Very lightly used or carried.

I was not sure if that was badge or SN#. Thank You. I have been collecting LE marked firearms for about 16 years. A friends father stated collecting memorabilia 50 + years ago and I got bit by the bug. Some are just cool looking, others have a story that goes with who owned/used it. Fascinating. We have picked up guns from all over the world, various calibers, never know what will show up. I do not have a "Grail gun" so the cost is not that bad, most of the guns are worth what they would be marked or not. Enjoy. Be Safe,

This 67-3 is from the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. Has a tag on the inside of the grip near the hammer spring with "CNMI" and a rack number. It was in pretty rough cosmetic shape when I received it. Good thing stainless is fairly easy to clean up and I bought it for cheap.

Just picked this up... goes with my issued Beretta, an old department Ithaca 37, a rare Dan Wesson DSP 1911, a Special Unit Beretta, and my new LTT Elite Beretta with my old unit number as the serial. Crazy thing is that the last three of the dept-applied number is also my old unit number... same as my LTT Elite!

Have a hard time passing them up when I run across them.
I carried the G21 and P226 on duty, and while not a Glock fan, still have fond memories of that 21. Seemed as if it could shoot Hydrashoks all day!

This one was shipped exactly 59 years ago. It is a Model 10 (no dash) and was shipped from the S&W Factory to Teague Hardware Co. on August 26, 1959. It was in a shipment of 2 units with both being engraved with the property marking numbers on the left side of the frame and the PD name on the backstrap.
Wish I could find the other one to re-join this one.

Old cop guns with finish wear and dings and such are one of my favorites!
I can shoot them a lot, appreciate the history, and usually buy them rather cheap ( I miss the days of going in my local shop with literally buckets full of used K frames to sort through for $165 each)

Glocks or any other polymer pistol will never have the allure or class of a revolver or hammer fired weapon. Just never will. Even my kids look at my revolvers as nicer than my plastic semi autos.
I think the general answer to that question on this forum would be a hardy "yes!"
How many people are actually still carrying or using those revolvers for SD/HD is another question.
