Anyone like Stag and Jigged bone?

I recently purchased these Sambar stags grips. The outer portions of the grips have never been fitted to a gun, and they have a nice swell in the center of each grip that fills the hand nicely.

Jeff,
Your grips look great!! If you try to fit the outer portions of the grips, I wonder if the antique color goes that deep, or if it would be more white colored as you sanded them down?
Larry

Mr. Grashorn does excellent work. My dad's old duty revolver wears them well. Along with a Nelson Ford action job and tightening, it will last me the rest of my life.

Some previous posts have mentioned that one likes them or not, and, in general, one would do well to recall the Roman dictum "De gustibus non disputandum erat," which means "Taste didn't used to be disputed."

Below are some jigged-bone grips which I bought from Wyatt Burp, IIRC, to put on a pre-15 for which I considered them appropriate. However, they fit better on a SB Model 12, on which they were unprecedentedly functional. "Unprecedentedly functional" means that before I put those grips on, with a Tyler, I didn't carry the gun because I didn't like the way the grips fit my hand. Now I do. In fact the gun is in my pocket right now.

Thanks Larry. That's exactly why I haven't tried to fit them. I'm afraid I'll lose that patina and if so it won't come back in my lifetime.

Jeff,

Exactly right. The patina is not thick and it'll polish thru in no time.
However a little tea on a que-tip or a propane flame played VERY QUICKLY over the cleaned surface can effect a match. But of course only after experimenting on the back or on a scrap piece.

I saw a pair of Jigged Bone grips (I Think they are jigged bone) for sale this week on eBay. The seller was selling them as stag. I bookmarked them thinking I might be able to get them for $70-80. Before I could even bid, they went was over my range. Maybe someone here got them. I thought they were pretty nice! Here is the completed auction, what do you think?

I generally use $150 as a cut off point for nice stags and $100 for jigged bone. Occasionally, I run into a bargain. I picked up a set of jigged ivory ( go figure ) for under a hundred last year.

Last time I looked on eBay for S&W stocks all I found was page after page of red colored wood models made in Thailand. Where else can one find old/used S&W stocks?

The Classifieds here on the forum and GunBroker are good places to look.

I've owned a LOT of vintage Sambar Stag; somehow it always gets sold/traded in exchange for fancy wood custom target stocks.......

I do have a few pairs of Smooth Giraffe Bone N frame pre war magna and service stocks with original pre war medallions. Giraffe bone is beautiful and resembles ivory very much. I'll have to get some pics of them
