To listen to it on my home theater (through the smart TV or DVD player) can it steam wireless or does it need to be hard wired from my computer.? I clicked on the Pandora option on the DVD player and it searched for a wired IP address. Do I need the wireless plug in thingy? I have one for the TV, will that work?

Wifey has a Smart Phone from work and it will link to her car stereo. They synced it at the dealer so I have no idea how it's done.

Too many options, remotes and instructions between the AV receiver, DVD and TV all the manuals are on DVDs.

Thanks

If your DVD or TV is set up for wireless then it can stream wireless. But if it is like my BluRay player (which does wired only) it will need a wired connection.

Yes, they both can do wireless. The TV came with the wireless USB adapter. The DVD did not, it's optional. I do not know if the TV one will work in the DVD as I would rather have just the DVD and receiver on, then the TV.

Sure it will stream wireless as long as you have a WiFi (TV/BP) or a WiFi ready (TV/BP) with a plug in thingy. The (TV/BP) has to have a Pandora App. Of course you need a wireless home network and you'll need to select it and enter whatever your password is for your network (if you are using a password). Wife listens to Pandora on her car audio system via iPhone.

Yes but they are Wi Fi but the "thingy":D for the Toshiba Blue Ray is like $40 or more:eek:. The TV came with one. My computer is close to the set up so I think I will just get a Lan Cable less money and mo betterer reception.

just a suggestion, since you are going to stream over the 'puter...try slacker radio...like pandora but actually plays songs from the group you choose or genre that you choose.

i use my laptop to steam most of the time. i use the headphone output into my home theatre and turn it up. as high tech as i like to be, this works for me since i don't do this a lot...the laptop does have an hdmi output to watch things on the tv if i want to though...and the tv is internet connected via wireless home network

Running a cable from your router to the BP is cool, though I wouldn't be too concerned with the music quality of WiFi. Pandora only requires 150-300Kbps. You mentioned that you don't want to use the TV, and this may sound a bit silly to mention, but the TV will still be required to select the App on the BP and to navigate Pandora. As long as the audio from the BP is directly connected to your receiver then I suppose the TV could be turned off after Pandora is up and running... That wouldn't work on my system because all the HDMI inputs run directly to my TV, then I use one optical digital cable from the TV to the receiver.

Seeing as how you are going to run a cable anyway, I think SpeedyQuad had suggested a good option to just run an audio cable from your computer to the receiver.

Yes, I thought about the TV being on to select the Pandora App but then as you mention I thought I could turn off the TV and select songs or stations from the computer (this is a desk top) and the cable would go direct from my router.
My Blue Ray is connected to the TV but I have a HDMI ARC from the TV back to the AV receiver.

I do not know if leaving the TV on, if it will go into a screen saver mode?? That is what I was afraid of, plus it must use more mega watts ;) than the Blue Ray?

I am so confused, I think I will play my vinyl. Of wait, I can't do that either as the new AV has no phono input so I need a preamp.:)

I don't think you'll be able to control Pandora on your wireless BP from your computer. They are separate devices streaming content from Pandora, each will stream content independently as far as I know. That's how it operates on my network.

If your BP delivers sound to your receiver with the TV off then you should be good to go. Easy test... pop in a disc.

If you leave your TV on I would not think the TV screen saver would be an issue since Pandora delivers video content (a type of screen saver of it's own- Album artwork and music info) ) while streaming music.

i would think of it this way. if he is using the computer for the streaming source, the tv/br would just be the bridge to get the audio to the receiver. with every connection, a tiny bit of quality is lost, but so little that many of us would not notice it. if he does use the 'puter, the tv and blu ray can remain off if he goes with the headphone audio out jack to the receiver using the rca jacks for for a cd player or if your 'puter and the blu ray allow, some other type of connection. since my ps3 is my br/cd/gaming console, i only use the hdmi input for that and have the rca jacks open for the cd player.

here is a 50' cord on ebay. 15m 50 feet 1/8 stereo headphone plug to dual rca cord | eBay

After all this... I figure Rule3 will just say the heck with it... Turn on the wireless TV, select the wireless network, click on the Pandora App and be done with it. :D

I might end up doing that,:D BUT, I just came back from Homer Depot with a 25 ft patch cord ($12.00)so either way it's getting hooked up:)

I need a nap now, so maybe tomorrow.;)

Thanks, stay tuned (pun intended)

Well it turns out my LG Smart TV is not so smart or at least it does not come with Pandora Compatible installed.:(

I installed the Wi Fi USB "Dongle" (yes that is the term) I can stream other stuff.

So the cable I purchased was worth it. Connected to my Toshiba BD and we be ROCKIN now!:D

The computer does not need to be on, just the router. I can listen to different songs on the computer then what's on the TV.

Bonus: The way I have it wired I can turn off the TV and just run the BD Player and A/V receiver. Of course I can not add or delete but once set on shuffle or mix it's good to go.
