I've been wanting a truck for awhile now and am looking hard at a new Ram (2018). I most likely would go a crew cab with the V6 since I have no plans to tow. Any thoughts or insights would be greatly appreciated.

I've had mine a little less than 2 years now. It is my third Dodge and all have treated me well.

This latest is the Bighorn addition. I went with the Hemi even though I do not tow much. It gets close to 20 mpg highway even with 4wd.

It has one of the smoothed rides of all the other makes that I tried. Unless you need the cargo space go with the bigger back doors as it makes the back seat more people friendly.

Good luck,
Russ

I have a '15 Ecodiesel Crew Cab. Been a great truck. I cover a lot of ground daily and the 27+ MPG is greatly appreciated. Taking the kids on vacation, they fight over who gets to sit in back. Plenty of room. One of them is 6'2" and the other is 6'4" and there's plenty of leg room for them.

They are good trucks. I've owned three over the past thirty years. I just can't get over preferring Chevrolets like the one I'm driving now. The Dodge does cost less though.

03 still going strong and making me money:cool:four door Larime with an eight foot bed no wheelbarrel5' or 6' beds just full size..

Bought my 2014 Ram with 5.7 Hemi back in Dec. 2013 and love how it runs and the great gas mileage 23 MPG on the highway. 21,000 miles on it now.

Have a 2015 Laramie edition crew cab with the Hemi and loving every minute of it! ;)
Didn't buy it new but it was a very low mileage lease back and it had everything I wanted!

Seems like every Dodge truck more than a few years old I see has body rust over the rear wheels. Has Dodge solved that problem?

I was concerned about the rust issues as well when I bought mine. I've been told that Chrysler has resolved that and it only occurred in certain past year models.
I believe it was between 04 & 09 But I don't remember for sure

That's why I bought my Hemi, if I want to I can. The gas mileage is really not that bad! ;)

Yeah, but unless you're planning on dying in it, you gotta sell it or trade it at some point. No self respecting redneck in these parts would even open the door to look at the inside . . .

My dad learned this lesson hard when he ordered a truck just like he wanted, which was just like nobody else wanted. He went to trade it, and the dealership wanted him to pay them to take it . . .

Not everybody tows or wants sports car levels of performance.

Maybe tastes differ in Pennsylvania.:)

I had a RAM rental van fitted with the latest V6. It went like stink empty and pulled better than expected loaded with the A/C on.

One of my best friends has a 2017 3/4 ton diesel 4wd. Power everything. Fairly easy on fuel but then fuel is quite a bit more than gas. HAVE to use cruise or you are doing 90 in a blink. Been in the shop already a couple of times. Not sure that is not normal for the newer rigs. They ARE complicated machinery. Ride is great and very quiet. Now getting in and out of the sumxxxxx is another story. For me I would prefer a Tacoma with a V6 and manual transmission. I tow or haul nothing heavy. Much easier to turn around on a back contry road in 90% of the cases. Plenty of pep and I don't need a damned step ladder to get in and out of it.

Luv my 2016 Ecodiesel, 30,000 on it and it has been flawless. Air ride suspension is incredible, better ride than my wifes 04 caddy.. Mileage can reach 30mpg on highway if I baby it. Towing a car trailer with a car on it is a breeze ... still have my 2002 3500 cummins dually for towing the big enclosed trailer.. and last but not least, my little 2001 Dakota plow truck for the wifey to bomb around town and clean up the big snow storms..
