Not that I have a gunsafe, or any guns, for that matter -
Suppose - (NOT my combo) suppose your combo was -oh, say -
40 - 10 - 60
Go right 3 times to 40, thun go left 2 times to 20, stopping short of the actual next number.
This makes your next entry quicker, but does it give up any real security?
You (or a burglar, or child) have ONE chance to make use of the preloaded/pre-entered portion.
Also, always stopping at one number (20 in this example) shows whether anyone has been messing with it.
Any opinions?

I have a day key. I open the safe when I'm home, and then there's a key to lock the door closed without throwing the bars. Makes access easier. When I go out of town, or the house is going to be empty, we lock the door with the bars, and remove the day key.

Damn, now I have to call the lock smith and have my combo changed!. Thanks a lot!:(

Kinda mean of him posting the combo to both of our safes; wasn't it? ;)

But I think this pre-loading is a great idea. i just prefer to take out what guns I need for the night which is very few considering that I have a fairly good inventory of guns on my person throughout the day and I never put my pants in the safe at night.

My safes are preloaded. But I do not keep my defensive gun locked up.

I wonder how many of those safes they made with "our" combination?

I don't preload the combination ever. Anything I should need in a hurry is already close at hand.

I dunno; it's likely that there are no where near as many combinations as there could be. The possibilities far out number the probabilities IMHO.

I Never pre-load the combo! I would always be concerned that I would forget to spin it every time I leave the house. Since I am now retired I am always going in & out. The firearms I keep for SD are either on my person when I am out, or in a secret hiding place (when home) ready for action should the need every come up. Therefore a loaded gun is never
un-attended in my house.

Actually not a bad idea IF you're ONLY pre-loading the first number.
The goblin still has to hit the 2nd number correct and then the third.
Once they miss the second number and reverse the dial the safe is effectively back to being a 3 number lock.
I don't see a down side to this...

I also think that ALWAYS stopping on the same number is an outstanding idea :)

Mine is digital so it's pretty fast. Personally I dont think a robber is going to try to "crack" a combo anyway so I dont see an issue if you wanna pre-load the combo. A lot of locks have a quick open combo.

Mine is digital also, but it has a 6 digit lock. But the numbers repeat in a pattern that takes probably about 3 seconds total to get into, provided you hit the right number and the number actually presses, instead of pressing and it not registering. For the longest time all I had was a gun "display" case with a lock on it. The lock keeps kids and honest people out, someone breaks into my house the first thing they see is an AR, AK, 2 shotguns and a 22. Im sure they would be leaving with all they could carry...

Nah, the safes are for safe keeping and I'm never in that much of a hurry where I need to shave 30 seconds off the time to get in. I've got enough artillery stashed outside of the safe in the house to solve whatever social situation I'll likely come up against.
