Anyone put a Python rib on a 686?

Just curious if any firm is doing "vertical porting" of the barrel rib to make a 586/686 "Pythonesque" is appearance. I seem to recall seeing this done when the L first came out, some gun mag or another, and IIRC, it wasn't a "Smolt", but venting of the top rib itself.

Anyone know of this, own one, have a pic of one?

IMHO,it'd be much easier, eye pleasing and cost efficient to fit a Python barrel to the 686. There's not that much meat above the barrel on a 686. I realize you were asking about a modified 686, NOT a "Smolt" or a "Smython". I have been a wheelgunner for over 50 yrs, and have never seen or heard of the modification you describe. That don't mean it ain't out there--just means I ain't seen it..........

I saw a couple of these years ago and they did look nice. A local gunsmith made some very odd guns when he was not busy.

Don't think you could machine it out, on that I think we'd agree but...with ECM cutting, a la Magnaport, I think you could. That tiny stream hot plasma can do pretty amazing things in the micro if you get my drift. And IIRC, I think I have seen what I'm asking about. Haven't hit the 50 year as a shooter yet (did pass 40 this year, as a shooter that is )but hell, maybe what I remember was a Smolt. This kind of stuff keeps happening to me as the years roll by.

Was hoping someone else had to, for the reason of not having Python on the barrel but keeping the original rollmarks. Just thought it'd be neat.

All I have seen was the Smolt and Smython's made by Bill Davis when he had his shop near here.
