I assume the healthy DA pull is partially to ensure reliable shotgun primer discharge. Has anyone used a lower effort hammer leaf spring, like the standard power Wolff spring? I doubt a lowered effort trigger return spring change would be noticed - the DA pull is actually okay for me, just not for my wife... she said my 1895 Nagant revolvers are 'lighter' in DA pull! She shoots it SA fine. I have no problem with it DA - it is stout - but very smooth. Still, to me, a proper HD revolver should be capable of reasonable DA shooting.

Anyone crack a Governor's sideplate yet? Thanks!

PS FYI - the X-frame .500 Magnum Hogue monogrip fits it perfectly and is a great improvement. The S&W Accessories DeSantis RH leather holster for the Governor fits it well and is a great value.

Well, a month - and no replies! Has anyone done any spring exchanges on the Governor yet? Any DA trigger 'improvements'? Thanks!

Another month - still, no one has resprung a Governor? I really like the smoothness, but is all of that 'extra' whack really necessary for reliable shotgun primer ignition? Any first hand experience would be appreciated.

War Eagle, M.G.!

Yeah, their delivery seems spotty at best. Someone suggested they had government contracts taking up their production. Still no 2 1/8" 632, SKU #178046, even though they announced it in early 2010, either. I lucked out on my Governor, finding it on my first visit to a new gunstore.... good grief, that was June 13th! I haven't seen one since that store. I guess that answers the respring question - there just isn't a large enough sample out there yet.

Not yet

Stainz: I'm going to shoot mine a bit more before considering changing spring weights. It is a bit heavy, but smooth if that explains anything. I like mine (the gun, not the trigger pull) a lot!

I just talked with a CS guy at S&W re the Governor's hammmer spring. He did reveal that the Governor does come with a stronger-than-standard leaf spring. While he is not supposed to suggest lighter springs, he did say I could always 'try' a regular spring. I have plenty... one will find it's way in there tonite. I will test it again Thursday or Friday.

A standard S&W OEM leaf, removed from a new S&W over the last few years, found it's way into my Governor last night while I was cleaning it... and, yes, the DA trigger is a bit better - and smoother, possibly at least partially due to my lightly lubricating the dry-as-a-bone innards, too.

A return call from S&W CS this AM was fortuitous. I learned that the ammonia content of the Hoppes #9 would damage the Melonite finish. They suggest gun oil or Hoppes Elite - or something else rated as safe for Melonite! I learned this by asking how to get rid of the mottled black appearance on my Governor. Live and learn...

Picked up my new Gov this morning. Been dry firing with caps for few hours. That led me to search and find this post. When you say standard leaf spring, are the parts for a Gov. the same as a N Frame ? I'm asking because I want to order one for my saw finger. I agree it is very smooth, but it is stout. As far as the grips for the 500, did you get from S&W or were you able to find them some place else cheaper?

Anyone else make any changes to their Gov?

Going to the range tomorrow, have a lot of reloads in both acp and colt from when I owned a BH conv and picked up some Fed Red Box 410.

Thanks for any info.

:)
