Anyone sell a M1 Garand lately?

Was wondering what the market is like for M1s. I got a exc springfield armory shooter. Bunch of ammo in clips in bandoleers, maybe over 600 rounds. 2 bowie cut bayonets in exc RIA and SA. Anyone have idea on what they are selling for. If I could post pics I would.

I sold a December 1942 Springfield with a January 1943 barrel on Gunbroker for $915 last month. Nothing extra other then the CMP case it came in. Your ammo alone is worth $300 at CMP prices, and those are loose rounds, not the enbloc clips packed, which would bring more.. Don't know what the bayonets got for but say $40 a piece. You're looking at over $1200, depending on serial number and type of wood. IS it GI wood or new? GI wood brings more, of course.

It's new wood, a cmp stock serial num is high. It's a like new rifle not a collector.

Springfield service grades are not currently available and when they are they go for 650 shipped but that's after a new buyer jumps through the hoops to get one and then crosses his fingers as to what arrives in 3 months. Knowing what the buyer is going to get and getting it in less then a week is worth more so I would start an auction at 700 plus 40 to ship and watch it climb. I'd sell the ammo either seperately it add 300 bucks to the deal. Same for the bayonets

If this is a service grade special they start at nearly 1000 from the cmp

Thanks for the replies. It's a 30 06. And it's a select service, which was a special run of a few guns at their store that I'm aware of. They are just like the special grade, I see they are sold out and not taking orders for the SA ones. I see someone has ammo posted on gunbroker asking $85 for just one bandoleer (48 rounds)! I would rather do local sale if I decide to sell I think, possible trade cash deal too.

The new wood is the only thing hurting you, it won't sell as quick and won't get as much. I would be hesitant to do an auction without a reserve on that gun (and I hate reserve auctions)

The beaters I've seen at gun shows go for over a Grand.
My Dad, who died 20 years ago today had a perfect National Match Garand. A few years after he died his best friend and I took it out and shot it. Had a great time. When we were done he causually mentioned the fact it was unfired up to that point.
It was probably worth several Grand unfired.To me it's still priceless.
Oh well, I enjoyed shooting it.

the gun show i visited yesterday had them for $1000 to $1400. these were military surplus rifles, and they were old. the beat up dented and scraped ones sat at $1000, while the lightly used ones sold at $1400.

I've seen new m1 garands (Springfield m1a i believe it's called) at $1200 in stores also.

I'd bid on an $800 m1 garand if i had $800 in my pocket

I see the same rifles show after show with $1000+ price tags. I suspect if I knew what I was looking at I would find that they are just regular rebuilds in pimp-shined stocks. IMHO the Garand is up there with Lugers and Pythons when it comes to being overpriced, though not quite up to 98k lunacy. GI type M1 Carbines are another overpriced weapon.

New wood only matters to die hard collectors. Guys who want a genuine Garand to shoot want it to look nice and dings all over, while they are part of the history don't look as nice to me. Guys fantasize the dings came from jumping into a foxhole in Bastogne, but they just as easily could have come from being dropped 1000 times by recruits in basic training and never saw action. I kept my post war HRA Garand when I sold the Springfield. Gun looks almost new even without the new wood. Most of the parts are original as well, including the barrel to the receiver

I don't think 1000 bucks for a garand is over priced. Guys spend way more then that on AR's. Semi auto 30-06? Well worth it. Yeah, you can get them for 650 through the CMP, and that is where I got mine, but waiting three months and hoping for a good one is not for everyone.

Does yours have a new barrel installed? The SGS's are essentially new rifles with new barrels and all the parts reparkerized.

Semi auto 30-06 says it all . Serious battle rifle with proven track record. Try getting prone with a long magazine and enbloc clips look like a good idea. Had to bring out some M14s in latest shoot outs ,seems AR types did not have the range to reach the bad guys who sniped our guys with old 30 cals .
