Anyone carry a 5 Shot Leather brand ankle holster? I am looking at the Galco ankle glove, but heard about 5 Shot. It is twice the price of the Galco.

I've never heard of the brand. I use a Galco Ankle Glove, and before that I was using a DeSantis Die Hard (it lasted 11 years, but finally wore out). I carry a 5-shot Airweight as a BUG on-duty and have since I started my career. I can't imagine what would make an ankle holster worth twice as much as the Ankle Glove or Die Hard. Both are excellent holsters, comfortable and durable.

Don't know anything about John's ankle holster, but I carry my Mdl 19 21/2 in one of his SAP holsters. I have watched John's holster progress from his first post on another forum looking for info and help in getting started.

Lou Alessi jumped in and gave John some guidance, and now his holsters rank right up there with Sparks, Del Fatti and Uncle Lou's (RIP) for quality of workmanship.

I would venture to say that when a Galco has gone totally soft, one of John's holsters will be just getting nicely broke in.

After looking at the Alessi ankle holster, the two are almost identical. Is the Alessi pretty nice?

The Alessi Ankle Rig is the best Ankle Holster that I have ever owned. I have 3 of them. One carries a S&W 442 another a S&W 3914 and the last a Glock 27. IT usually carries my BUG but once in a long while it is the only way I can carry.

Yes I believe Lou Alessi trained John and gave him some tips so his designs are very similar. I used to own a J frame rig from 5 Shot and it was awesome. I just found something better (Matt Del Fatti).

5-Shot or Alessi make great leather so you can't go wrong with either as long as your wallet can handle the price tag

John is a protege of Lou's and his ankle holster is spot on Lou's design.

I carried a Model 60 in an Alessi for 28 years and was fortunate to buy a new Alessi ankle rig for my 340PD prior to Lou's passing. Still use my Alessi gun belt daily and it's almost 40!

John's work looks great!

Just posted a reply today at "J frame on the ankle" by r ubed. I have been using one for a couple of years and like it very much.

I used a Bianchi X12 for 22 years for my Model 37 BUG. Several years ago I bought a Galco Ankle Glove and never put the Bianchi on again. IMHO there is no more comfortable or secure ankle holster than the Galco. I often wear it 15 to 18 hours a day.

I have to agree with Iggy. I just purchased one of John's holsters, a CBS for a Commander, it exhibits excellent workmanship. His work is not in the same class as Bianchi, Galco, etc, it is much, much better, on par with the above mentioned holster makers.

That said, I cannot comment on his ankle holsters, ankle holsters have never felt right to me.

To set the record straight Lou did not train John but shared quite a bit of advice and encouragement. Lou was a close family friend and I also know John. Anyway, I have both the Alessi Ankle rig (3) for various guns and received a 5SHot ankle rig earlier this year for my Walther P99c. If compared side by side, they are identical and the only giveaway is the "makers mark". You can't go wrong with either and they will both serve you well!
