Anyone use a fanny-pack/waist-pack?

Interesting thread. I just purchased a DTOM (Don't Tread on Me) medium fanny pack for my S&W SD40VE. The bag is nicely finished in suede leather and has a strong clip that I adjusted to make sure it fits towards the front of the bag so I have control over it. The bag does not have additional clips to attach it to my belt.

This pistol fits the fanny pack exactly; if it were slightly longer or taller, the large bag would have been in order. The gun slips into an elastic band which seems to hold the weapon securely.

The gun is easy to deploy through a pull tab system that when tugged forcibly opens the zipper. One caveat: I did call customer service about the stickiness of the zipper. DTOM's response was to practice with the zipper and that it would free up and slide easily with a little use. This seems to be the case.

Yes, a fanny pack is nerdy, and may scream "look, he's got a gun," but I've gotten past that. Concealed means out of normal view and this fanny pack does it well and comfortably. I don't think the average guy on the street really thinks about who is, and who is not, carrying. And, it's simple to unclip it and leave the whole thing unlocked in my vehicle if I gotta go in a "gun free" business...

For walks with the dog, hiking, and being in the outdoors while wearing shorts and a tee, I think this fanny bag is a good choice for me.

Has anyone tried a sling bag (single strap backpack) such as those made by 5.11 and Tactical Tailor? While not a big fan of off body carry, I do commute by bicycle at times and found the Tactical Tailor sling bag to not look too military or tactical, secures the revolver well and is pretty comfy. Though it is pricey, I've used their products when in the military and found them to be pretty rugged. Lumbar packs I've used for hiking or biking, tend to slide down low on the hips no matter how tight I adjust them. I dislike the sag once they have any weight in them. Since I usually just wear plain old Carhartt canvas shorts when biking, IWB works pretty well but there are times off body carry is the most discreet option.

I have a sling bag but it tends to move around more than I like especially when bent over. May just be my body type, bean pole, but I get a more secure feeling with a standard backpack usually.

This Kabar pack has 2 belt loops on the back that stop it from falling even if the waist belt is removed or fails. Nice feature.

Today I put it on the forks of my bike, works great!! I can store wallet, keys, papers, and a pistol if I really wanted to. Tucks nicely behind the shield.

I use a small tank bag for carrying while riding, then place pistol in OWB or IWB holster, depending on which jacket, when off the bike.
