Looking for a cheap plinking red dot to use indoor range for my 15-22. The one below is the best seller on Amazon but it's not a tube style. I've used a tube style on the 15-22 I rented at the range before I bought mine. Is there much difference between tube and non tube? Pros and cons? There's no MOA listen for the scope, so not sure if it's accurate or not. Also I've been looking at the bushnell tr-25 because everyone recommends that. But that's seem like a lot to spend for just target shooting. Thanks for your input.

I got a cheap version of a trijiCON rmr to angle mount on mine from the ebay. For about £30 ($20 or whatever the xchange rate is)

For what i use it for...'minute of bean can at 25 yards' it is fantastic and a fun addition to my rifle when i am done looking through my viper connect scope, for a bit of rapid fire fun.

I wouldn't scrimp on a primary optic but was actually pleasantly surprised at how accurate it is and it has held zero for ages, even with a couple of knocks.

I would give the BSA a go..if you don't want to go for the proven tr-25. Beware though the last scope i had was a BSA and it gave me problems. Someone at my range said BSA meant 'better stay away' they are not the company they used to be.

Thanks for the replies. I've read that the Trs-25 with a 0.83" riser will co-witness with the iron sights. Now if I have the stock iron sights and don't plan on removing them is this the best way to do? Will the iron sights get in the way? I'm a little confused about this and co-witness and 1/3 witness. Again it's just for target shooting so nothing too fancy or complicated is needed. Thanks

Google always has some kind of answer.

I never fully understood why people are wanting irons as back ups. Its not like they are battle rifles. If you use irons, use irons. If your using a rds, use a rds. I just find bolting on extra stuff on the gun is simply for show. For those weekend warriors who most likely shoot 100 rounds max and at 25yds or less. I bet they also has lights on there rifles.
Now be honest, how many of you shoot at night?
1% maybe, but how many of you have lights? 30% I guess.
So 29% oc ypu jave stuff on you gun that you dont use.
I guess the point Im trying to make is, unless you shoot with co witness. It just something you dont need.
I find irons block the rds field of view also. Thus 1/3 co witness.
Anyway hope you find something you like, thats really all that matters isnt it!

So the simplest solution is to just remove the iron sights and use the red dot for the range.

I love my wife!
I love my wife in her pyjamas!
I love my wife in lingerie!

You don't have to want to attach this and attach that to anything, but some things are made a little more exciting and interesting with a few additions. Above all what you want to do with your rifle, is entirely up to you. Critiquing people for their choices is like correcting spelling mistakes. You can correct them but people will not appreciate it.

Try shooting the rifle with nothing on the rails...why don't you just trying throwing the bullets. I guess what i'm trying to say is, you already have the irons, get a red dot...try the co-witness if you don't like it, you can either use the irons or the red dot. The choices are yours to make.

I have no experience with the red dot you listed, but as for tube vs. non-tube, I prefer non-tube for a better/bigger field of view.

It's a lot more $$$, but I really like the Burris FastFire line of red dot sights.

Take a look at Primary Arms, get on their email specials list, they have great sales through the year, as does PSA.

If you are using a RDS correctly, shooting with both eyes open, field of view is a non-issue.

Yep. Let me clarify, hopefully... I mean that I prefer the 'lower profile' of the reflex/non-tube type of sights, like the Burris FastFire that I mentioned, because it's so small that it doesn't offer much to 'get in the way' of these old eyes!

I do use a RDS correctly, I just prefer to have as little as possible in my line of sight/view, like a tube-type of RDS offers.

That is all. Carry on... :)

There's an endless assortment of red dots on the market. The two you'll find the most positive feedback on are the Primary Arms MicroDot and Bushnell TRS25. Dime store optics are iffy. That $20 red dot may be a great deal or it may turn out to be something to toss in the parts bin. Might consider going with a dime store optic that a lot of folks use and overwhelmingly give positive feedback.

I have a light on my 15-22 BFD. I have it for S/D. It brighter than all get out. It also has a great strobe on it. It's very disorienting to look into and that's the whole idea.

If you want back-up sights go for it. Batteries do die, and electronics do go bad. If it happens to look cool, is that a bad thing?

I say do what you want with your own weapon. There are a lot of things I see people put on their 15-22's that I wouldn't put on mine, but it's not mine. Criticizing what other do to theirs really isn't all that productive unless opinions are asked for.
