Apex FSS trigger has me confused.

Had the Apex competition spring/sear kit, with stock trigger, in my M&P for years. Had it milled out for a RMR a few years back. Everything has worked perfect. With the allowance of the Apex flat faced trigger trigger, I installed the trigger, trigger return spring and sear. When dry firing, the striker resets. There is a distinct click when I pull the trigger. When I load a round, there is a click but no primer strike. Not even a mark showing a light primer strike. I have a heavy duty striker spring.

What am I missing?

Actually it's the trigger bar loop and it's fine as there is not a dead trigger. Only thing I didn't do was replace the reset assist (RAM).

It sounds like the timing of the striker release is a bit early and the safety plunger is not moving completely out of the way. You can test this by finding a Bic pen, which has the plastic plug at the back end and inserting it into the barrel (unloaded). With the muzzle up, press the trigger. The pen should launch vertically at least 3 feet if the striker travel is unencumbered.

If there is no perceptible, or minimal pre-travel on your pistol then that could be an indicator that either the loop is too open, or the particular trigger bar is out of the tolerance range of our forward set sear. Call our customer service and we will be able to walk through the troubleshooting process and get you back up and running.

To test that out, I switched uppers onto a frame that has no issues. Put a case with primer but nothing else into the chamber. (I know bad idea). It went bang, leading me to believe that the problem is somewhere in the sear housing block. It is the older style.

Take a look at the trigger bar at the forwardmost 90 degree bend. There may be a stamped "H", "S" or no marking. I believe swapping the slide assembly onto another frame may not give you the same amount of necessary trigger pre-travel, especially if they have different markings. I am assuming that the other frame also has our FSS trigger and sear installed?

Yes and is issue free.

Trigger bar was the issue. The one that I was having issues with was bowed too much. Probably from trying to seat the sear housing block. They can get a little stubborn. Anyway, because it was bowed inward, it wasn't allowing to shift clear of the sear when shot and couldn't reset. It was always under the sear.
