Can anyone tell me why I should buy one over the other. What are the positive and negatives of each of these kits.
Apex Hard Sear vs APEX M&P Duty/Carry Action Enhancement Kit (DCAEK).

I have an M&P 40

I agree - trigger pull preferences differ from one person to the next so opinions on the subject are going to be very subjective.

I installed the complete DCAEK, with full re-assembly and testing after each component, and perceived improvement with each. For my part the kit was a wholesale improvement over stock.

I'm very satisfied with the stock set up, however, I wish I knew somebody local, who has installed a dcaek mod so I could try/compare it to mine.

I will say that I was also quite satisfied with the stock trigger and a bit skeptical about how much improvement would be realized with the Apex DCAEK. I prefer 'try-before-buy' as well. The M&P's have the best trigger of all the striker-fired pistols IMO (striker-fired pistols are not a platform known for great triggers). I can tell you that you lose nothing that's good about the trigger with the Apex kit. It simply makes a good trigger much better. The take-up becomes glass smooth, the break more crisp, and the reset much shorter and more distinct. The Apex kit is certainly not a must-have but it is a worthwhile investment for any M&P IMHO.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm just wondering, since there are so many M&P devotees who like/believe in the Apex mod over the OEM trigger, why S&W doesn't consider adding this (or their "own" version) as an extra feature, like they did with their recent Body Guard guns that come equipped with CTC grips.

I'm not sure I like that idea. They might call it a PC M&P and charge an extra 1000 dollars.

Because S&W has a union guy that controls the magic gritty trigger dust and a lawyer that follows him around.

I did my own trigger. I was all but ready to click the here's my credit card button when I thought. HOLD UP!!!! Concerning Apex.

I think S&W will do a PC trigger job on the M&P. But you can bet it will be over priced and just a fluff and buff.

I have dry fired M&P's that have the Apex upgrade be it a service/duty install, or comp. Mines right in the middle. Not to mention if needed it bump fires great now! Yes I do like to build in bump fire in some semi auto pistols. I would only use it in very close 0 to 5 yards. And only in HD. Thus my M&P .45, Sigma 9mm and CZ-52 are setup for this use if needed.

I need to get with my brother and have him make me up some tool steel parts for the M&P. :)

I bought the entire kit for mine. I sort of intended to do it in stages to see the differences in each individual piece but ended up installing the entire kit at one time. I figured without a trigger pull gauge it wouldn't give me anything but purely opinion.

I also found the stock trigger to be decent. But I like to tinker and the Apex pieces are well regarded so I went with it. It is definitely worth the price and you can really "feel" how "bad" the stock trigger is in comparison.

I ordered the kit yesterday. Did you happen to test it in stages, as you were installing the individual pieces? I was thinking just using the sear and the USB kit, but keeping the stock trigger spring.

Nope, total install then checked. Its a very noticeable improvement especially the shortened reset. I found the trigger spring the toughest part to install. Basically trying to line up everything was a bit of a pain and took a few tries. Overall its an easy and quick install.

I have installed the competition spring set. Here is my pull weight report. The hard sear and striker block gave 3.12 pounds. The sear spring dropped to 3.8 pounds. The striker spring gave 3.7 pounds. The trigger return spring dropped it to 2.8 pounds. I do not have the striker block comp spring in mine. I was really surprised at how much effect the trigger return spring had on overall pull weight.
