apex kits

I just pick up an m&p 9c with thumb safety. I'm going to use it for my carry gun. I'm thinking of getting an apex kit put in but not sure what to go with. I seen the dcaek out there but then there are the other two kits, one with the poly trigger and the aluminum trigger. Do these two trigger kits come with everything the dcaek does? Any takes on any of the kits would be helpful. I also saw it mention that if you bough a new m&p gun that they might of used some apex parts in them. Is this true?

Put a few Hundred rounds through it first and see if you really NEED the entire kit (including trigger). You may find that you like the actual trigger and only want the regular Carry Kit.
Or... You may be one of those who like the factory trigger system just as it is.

Most of the sites say what actually comes in the kits. Look at a kit without the trigger, then pull up a 2nd browser window (or tab) and compare it to a kit that includes the trigger.

Good advice above. Takes a few hundred rounds to get a pistol to settle in and smooth out, whether you are talking an M&P or Wilson Combat 1911.

The M&P's trigger will smooth out and you'll be in a better position to decide whether you need to add the kit or not.

I did that with my M&P 45 and M&P 9mm Pro and ended up only going with the Forward Set Sear for a more 1911 like feel.

I have items 1 and 4 installed on my M&P FS9. Very good (to me) 5.5 lb trigger. I like the polymer blade type trigger.

Am I the only one concerned about putting the FSS into carry guns?
Even Apex says "This kit will set the trigger break point farther forward than the factory trigger assembly as well as, significantly reduce the uptake and over travel (varies). "

I agree with you about putting some rounds through it. I won't be making my decision until I do. I just like to have all of the information I can. I do know when I bought my full size m&p 9 the trigger was better on it.

I too use the 9c as my EDC gun. I first put about 700 rounds through it before I made any changes. I do recommend doing this first. After putting the rounds through the gun, I put in the DCAEK kit. I wanted a little lighter trigger pull so I left in the stock trigger return spring. I loved it with the kit in. But then the actual trigger started to bug me. I felt like it was thin. So I put the Apex polymer trigger in. Between the polymer trigger and the DCAEK kit, I feel like I have the perfect carry gun. The husband liked how mine felt so much he bought a 9c for his carry gun and had me put the same mods. on his gun. Also while doing the install, it is a good time to change the sights if you want to. You have to remove the rear sight to put in the new USB, so why not do your sights at the same time. I ended up with Warren Tactical FO on the front and Warren Tactical blacked out rears. I am very happy with my choices.

That's the specific justification I understand and appreciate.
"I'm thoroughly trained in 1911 drill and I want my guns to be similar" sure beats what I hear most often: "I can't hit anything yet but I want as light a trigger as possible so I can shoot really fast like I see on YOUTUBE."

Imagine as an instructor you hear a lot of crazy rationale.

I'm just not bright enough to be able to rotate different types of handguns in my carry rotation.

For my carry gun I would not put in the FSS kit. It makes the trigger too light for a carry gun IMO. I love the FSS kits in my competition guns. But for my carry guns the, DCAEK kit adding the polymer trigger was the way to go.

There are lots of us out here who are used to 1911's and make the mods. to make our M&P's feel more like them.

Go with the polymer trigger and if you want a little bit of a lighter trigger pull leave in the factory trigger return spring. Many people, myself included, have found the aluminum trigger hard to install. The pin on the trigger just doesn't want to move. Some people also have an issue with clearance on the aluminum trigger. After installing both, I totally prefer the polymer trigger. I love how my 9c's are set up with the DCAEK kits and polymer triggers. I find it to be the perfect set up for my carry gun.

Recommend you ping the folks at Apex tactical direct. I had a similar question with my M&P 9. It made sense for me to stick with the factory spring but no longer have the e-mail that explains the differences between the two springs.

If you put in the Apex trigger spring, it increases your trigger pull. Leaving in the factory one, brings down the trigger pull about 1/2 a pound, approx.

OP, I would also recommend getting the Armorers block. It makes pounding out the roll pins easier since it has holes in it for the pins to fall through. The first M&P I worked on I just put the gun on top of a roll of masking tape. It did work, but it did not hold the gun very securely. I then got the armorers block. It securely holds the gun while you are working on it. I think it is money well spent.
