Tool kit question

The 3rd edition doesn’t say much, because I’m guessing I’m overthinking this. Does this look like a cleaning kit, minus the mop from a ‘53 vintage 4” M&P? I’ve never had a tool kit or box with any of my pre- model guns. It looks like the same kit in my ‘81 629 but shorter. Did they actually use the same tools for 50 years?

Not even close. That has a wax paper bag/ envelope, and a steel cleaning rod.

No expert here but the rod and brush look correct for a post war M&P. All you need is the mop. Edit" It remained the same until sometime in the 1980's

That's my gun, but it's from 1960. I'm not sure how tools were packed in the mid-50's, but I'm sure it wasn't a plastic bag!

They were rolled in the tan tissue paper with the ends folded over.

I'll bet there is not much of that tissue paper that survived.

I’m guessing this is a partial kit out of a 70’s vintage gun. I’m not even sure if the box is original, there is no legible s/n on the bottom of the box. I think I got sucker baited. Still not disappointed, nice pre model with matching PC grips are tough to find. I’ve been trying to match up with my 5”.

I believe the MOP should have the brass threads too.
