I'm getting ready to purchase the Apex hard sear for my M&P40. Do I also need to replace the striker block to get the trigger down to the 4 pound range?

I'd buy the complete Apex "kit" rather than one part at a time.

I found my custom 4.5 pound trigger too light (for carry) due to the lack of feel at the sear trip point. The Apex "duty/carry" spring set cured this nicely.

I have just the sear and alone it makes a difference. The full kit is awesome but the sear works great alone.

The striker block is just a radiused piece. I bought the kit and I don't think installing that part makes much of a difference. Probably could round over the stock unit yourself.

I have the sear and block alone in all my M&P's. I find that combination pulls me down to just over a 4 lb. trigger, quite similar to my 1911's. Will certainly be too light for some, I like it.

I am a bigger fan of the Apex striker block than the sear. It really smoothed up the trigger draw heading for the "sear trip," and makes that light trigger quite doable on a striker-fired gun.

I'd bet you could try the parts & Apex would take them back if you don't like them. I had a compact that the drop-in parts wouldn't work in (only gun of many that happened), and they shipped it both ways and custom fit it on their dime for the learning experience. I'd say that's commitment!

S&W M&P Trigger Job

Get the Apex DCAEK kit. If you want a lighter trigger just skip the install of the sear and trigger springs. I personally prefer the slightly heavier pull that the Apex springs provide. As to the striker block; it is, in my opinion, a total game changer. I have 3 M&Ps; the newest being my 9c. I shot 500 rounds out of it before I installed the Apex parts and I did a short side-by-side comparison. If you hold an Apex fitted gun in one hand and a stock M&P in the other and pull the triggers you totally understand the benefit of the Apex parts. The change to the take-up that Apex USB provides is amazing, and while you could mess around trying to file a better radius onto your stock block, a drop in part that is included in a $90 kit makes a lot more sense to me. It also allows you to put your gun back to stock if the need ever arises. The USB does include a different spring, but I don't think it would noticeably affect pull weight. Another thing to consider with the USB is knocking out that back sight. Having 3 M&P's, I purchased the MGW sight tool. It was another $100 investment, but it makes the job so much easier. I also plan to invest in night sights for my guns so it will come in handy again.

I installed the DCAEK and RAM in my Ma compliant M&P 9c. Results from the DCAEK are fantastic! Results from the RAM not so much. Randy Lee / Apex does a great job! Highly recommend the DCAEK!

...also, was able to drift the rear sight by simply using a wood dowel.

They are about the same everywhere, I ordered mine through midway. They are the same price as apex tactical's site.

Midway is usually the same price as direct from Apex, but Midway shipping is cheaper. I think the last time it was $4 to ship through the USPS.

What didn't you like about the Ram? I picked up a comp AEK kit and a ram and was hoping to install them this weekend.

As an aside to anyone who is interested, I contacted APEX regarding installing the comp AEK but leaving the trigger pull around the 4 to 4.5 pound mark. They replied back quickly that you just need to leave the stock trigger return spring in to achieve that weight pull.
